POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President – Lifecycle Performance Services (LPS) Projects will support the expansion of Material Handling Systems, Inc. (MHS), scaling alongside the growth of its customers. The VP will own the LPS project delivery organization, ensuring North America projects are delivered against specifications, on time, on budget and gross margin is maximized. The VP will be tasked with the responsibility to lead the team through the next phase of growth.

The VP, leads and directs LPS Project Operations, Engineering, Estimating and Applications teams for the aftermarket business unit. The priorities for this position include strategic planning, project design, quality assurance, problem resolution and effective project-level forecasting. Additionally, this leader will execute project design to meet company objectives and develop systems and controls to ensure compliance with quality standards.

The VP will have proven capability in establishing and implementing processes across the organization, with a strong bias for action and a drive for results. The ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization will be integral to success.

This role will require a results-driven leader able to create and implement processes and tools for managing numerous (150+ at a time) complex, high-touch, projects in parallel. These projects may range from $1K to approx. $15M in size and be spread throughout multiple geographies in both the United States and Canada.

The VP will collaborate closely with other business segments and departments in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain, and Business Development, providing accurate forecasting of resource needs and timely communication of changes. As such, the incumbent will possess strong self-awareness and political savvy in working with others.

Additionally, this role will require interacting with clients at onsite locations and regular travel is expected to ensure partnerships are effectively built with new clients and expanded with current clients. The VP will take a “hands-on” problem solving approach and travel to client locations to investigate issues first-hand.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Effectively drive multi-year double-digit growth and margin expansion
  • Ensure alignment of MHS LPS Project team activities with the organizational strategy and reports regularly on goals progress and key business metrics to business leadership and peers
  • Develop goals and metrics to drive execution of strategic initiatives for the Project Team
  • Drive continuous improvement of project-level forecasting to maximize gross margin opportunities
  • Provide hands-on oversight of projects and services to ensure timely execution, follow-up, and closure of issues
  • Regularly interact with engineering, operational, and project management managers and supervisors to stay informed of all operational aspects
  • Support business development by engaging with key clients on performance strategies and concerns
  • Certify that the portfolio of projects is managed consistently, based on best practices and MHS policies and standards
  • Quantify that all projects follow sound methodology and execution practices in accordance with internal standard procedures and projects are closed as per contracts
  • Work consistently with international partners both inside and out of organization to improve local effectiveness.
  • Develops project execution capacity and capability in line with MHS policies, instructions and guidelines
  • Devise innovative strategies to cost-effectively accomplish objectives while ensuring that overall efforts are in concert with customer and company requirements.
  • Manage project risks and take aggressive measures to avoid incurring penalties or other costs that typically have substantial financial impact
  • Serve as primary interface with major customers and project participants to identify problems, devise innovative solutions, negotiate and reach mutually satisfactory agreement
  • Manage and document employee performance and prepare associated recommendations while concurrently ensuring fair and equitable treatment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, combined with a management degree, Master's degree a plus
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in managing engineering, multiple customer project portfolios, and diverse and large technical skills groups
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in project management or Engineering
  • Excellent leadership skills for supporting management and their teams
  • Strong strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills for presenting ideas and technological concepts, negotiation, and persuasion
  • Previous leadership experience developing high functioning teams.
  • Project Management experience in leading project values over $10M preferred
  • Solid operational background and proven track record of accomplishments in an engineering or construction environment
  • Technical knowledge of the various engineering disciplines required for engineering solutions development including mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls
  • In-depth knowledge of interdependencies and relationships between engineering systems
  • Robotics, ASRS, software, and other technologies experience is a plus
  • Robust computer skills using MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and familiarity with specialty applications for project and resource collaboration
  • Proven experience in a role entailing customer accountability and budget and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Ability to support active project teams on “off hours” at night and on weekends / holidays
