The Natural Resources platform consists of holdings in traditional and renewable energy, timber and agriculture real asset investments. The platform comprises approximately $2.5 billion of committed and invested capital across one directly held operating asset and two captive private equity funds.

About the role

This position will report to the Managing Director of the Natural Resource platform. The platform of nearly three dozen direct investments continues to grow and is seeking additional resources to support the current portfolio of existing and new investments. Primary responsibilities will include:

supporting oversight of existing portfolio holdings, conducting industry research and analysis, generating quarterly LP communication and investment performance review with support of analyst(s), and coordinating diligence with add-on investments for existing assets.

The Value You Deliver

  • Partner with 42 North investment team on portfolio management and oversight of portfolio, supporting efforts to monetize investments upon reaching targeted investment goals
  • Serve as board member or investor representative for at least eight individual holdings alongside 42 North team members and develop strong working relationships with management teams, fellow board members and investment partners
  • Drive favorable investment outcomes. Oversee execution of investment theses, assess management performance against that thesis, analyze market trends impacting performance
  • Leverage network of industry relationships to source new investment opportunities; partner with investment team to provide support on diligence of new investments
  • Develop leading industry knowledge, market insights, and deep familiarity with financial, strategic, and operational details of each of the target portfolio businesses

The Expertise You Have

  • 5-10 years’ experience as an associate/vice president/director at an institutionally scaled direct investment platform, preferably in an institutional asset manager such as a large family office, multi-family office, or private equity general partner
  • Prior experience in natural resources investing is a strong preference (energy & renewables, timber, agriculture, or metals & mining).
  • Direct experience in corporate governance roles, such as serving as a board member and /or investor advisory board member, is required
  • A proven record of delivering results and demonstrating impact
  • Strong attention to detail with a sense of urgency and ownership of completing the day-to-day
  • Strong financial and analytical skills; capability to analyze financial statements, review projections and understand business implications
  • Gravitas to engage with portfolio company management, investment partners and senior executives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to persuade through influence rather than directive
  • Willingness to travel approximately one-third of time to attend quarterly board meetings, ad-hoc management meetings, industry conferences and general networking opportunities
