The MAURY SERVICE AUTHORITY is searching for a full-time Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, who will lead and perform difficult and technical work overseeing, supervising, planning, organizing, and participating in the operation of the MSA WTP and associated water facilities. Superintendent is responsible for coordinating shift schedules, ensuring compliance with operating permit requirements, maintaining records, supporting annual water operations budget development, supporting engineering/construction and development of WTP and facilities, preparing reports and conducting related work as apparent or assigned. The Superintendent will oversee the staff of the plant, has standard full-time hours, is also responsible for being at the plant during extreme weather conditions, and is on call for the staff when needed. The Superintendent works under the direction of the Executive Director. Supervision is exercised over all personnel within the Water Operations Team.

Responsibilities include: The WTP Superintendent provides supervisory, management, operational, and technical support to the MSA water operations to sustainably provide clean water and comply with operating permit requirements; supervises and manages Water Operations Team members in maintaining all MSA water assets, equipment, and facilities.
Superintendent is responsible for knowing all regulatory requirements, file all regulatory reports, submit all operational reports to fellow MSA staff, and keep the facilities updated ahead of upcoming regulatory challenges and changes.

Experience: Combination of education and experience equivalent to an associates/technical degree with coursework in biology, chemistry, water treatment, mathematics, engineering, or related field(s) considerable experience in water treatment plant and distribution systems operations including supervisory and leadership experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of theory, principles, practices, and equipment of modern water operations; thorough knowledge of operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of water treatment facility, water transmission systems, pumping systems: thorough knowledge of chemical, hydraulic, physical, and mechanical principles pertinent to water treatment operations; thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations governing water treatment and distribution systems; thorough knowledge of the occupations hazards of work and safety procedures involved in water treatment and distribution; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, businesses, customers, and general public; ability to effectively communicate with others; ability to lead personnel to achieve affective water treatment, maintain healthy facility moral, personnel development, and organizational development; ability to work independently, establish departmental priorities with minimal guidance, understand and follow oral/written instructions, and maintain reports and records.

Special Requirements: Possession of a Class I Water Works Operator license in Virginia upon hire. Possession of valid driver’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Compensation: Dependent on qualifications. The MSA’s generous benefit package includes holiday pay, VRS retirement plan, and paid time off. Applications will be accepted through March 13, 2023.
