SCO Family of Services has provided vital human services throughout New York City and Long Island for more than 100 years. SCO helps vulnerable New Yorkers build a strong foundation for the future, aiding to get young children off to a good start, launch youth into adulthood, stabilize and strengthen families and unlock potential for children and adults with special needs.

SCO is seeking dedicated Workforce Support Specialist (WSS) with a vast knowledge of community resources and high networking capabilities to assist participants 18 and older transitioning from Riker’s Island. In order to facilitate safety, permanency, and well-being, on their re-entry into community.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Workforce Support Specialist will report directly to Senior Program Coordinator.
  • Connect eligible Workforce & YAWP participants, and RFP referrals to YAWP Mentoring program, walk participants through the process, maintain engagement, and track participation. Work closely with Assigned PC, with referrals, technical support, as well as training curriculum
  • Empowerment Facilitator – gather information from YAWP participants on topics of interest. Meet and coordinate with community resources for presentation and / or employment opportunities. Schedule and facilitate monthly meetings
  • Assist Road 2 Success referrals with overcoming barriers to obtaining Learner’s permit, Driver’s license, and / or Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Assist Against the Grain referrals with obtaining Barbering kit offered by Department of Corrections (DOC) upon completion of training. Also, assist with locating school for further education for the purpose of obtaining their Barbering License
  • Assist SCO Jail-based program referrals with connection to Mentoring and / or Empowerment groups. Assist with referrals to qualifying educational and vocational training programs, monitor and verify participation to provide bi-weekly gift cards • 35 hours a work week

QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education or Human Services Field one or more year’s prior experience working with clients ages 18 and older in a social services setting; • Or a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education or Human Services Field with minimum prior experience working with clients ages 18 and older in a social services setting.

  • Ability to obtain Department of Corrections clearance and work within the constraints of facility guidelines. Including lock downs and personal screenings, this can be changed at the discretion of the Department of Correction.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and Database skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required. Bi-Lingual a plus.

  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work on own initiative and under pressure.
  • The ability to manage, motivate and represent clients age 18 and older in a variety of levels.
  • Ability to create and sustain a learning environment in which the safety and the welfare of vulnerable adults are paramount.
  • High levels of drive, determination and commitment. • Excellent team working skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a capacity to work with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to act under own initiative and constantly strive to deliver excellence and creativity in your work.
  • Analytical skills - proven ability to deal with complex issues and make them. • Ability to prioritize urgent issues whilst achieving outcomes to agreed deadlines. • Superb skill in Data Analysis and Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. • An uncompromising approach to outstanding customer service.

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

Externally: interacts with NYC Department of Correction, and community based organizations

Internally: interfaces with other service programs as well as business support services

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Works within the structure of the City-Based Adolescent & Young Adult programs as that relates to the overall agency organization
