The Office of Academic Affairs at Eastern Washington University is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for our Academic Affairs Financial Officer ( AAFO ) position.

The AAFO position provides broad and deep range executive level support, and assistance to the provost, deans, senior budget officer, area management, and administrative staff on budget development, preparation, monitoring, and management.

The primary responsibilities are focused on providing budgetary and administrative management to Enrollment Services, Student Success, Planning & Policy, Office of Research, and is a central point of contact for the academic colleges units including College Financial Officers.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, accounting, economic, statistics or closely related field.
  • Minimum three years of professional experience in budgets, management, or academic program administration and analysis.
  • Experience presenting information and ideas clearly and effectively in writing, verbally, and graphically.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) Proficiency in Excel for extensive financial analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Highly organized individual with attention to detail.
  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in one of the following: economics, statistics, finance, accounting, public administration, or business administration.
  • Experience with data visualization and/or data analytics software.
  • Demonstrate and foster a culture of ethical leadership, a commitment to diversity, and encourage a supportive team-oriented work environment.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner HR/Payroll module or similar ERP system.

Financial and Budgetary Oversight
  • Develops, oversees, monitors, and reconciles budgets and resource planning for Enrollment Services, Student Success, Planning & Policy, Office of Research, and other Academic Affairs units not housed in a college, including direct interaction and decision making with Associate/Assistant Vice Presidents and program directors.
  • Provides guidance to Academic Affairs in development, implementation, and monitoring of institutional and biennial budget requests.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Budget Officer, identifies area budget resources utilization and funding needs that are presented to the University President, Academic Affairs, and Business & Finance Administrators. This financial report is prepared and presented to Academic Affairs and Business & Finance.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Budget Officer to identify areas for budget adjustments; makes recommendations; and calculates budget adjustment impact based on scenarios.
  • Examines original budget reports and comprehensive budget level reports from Budget Services for accuracy, then disseminates the financial reports to department chairs and staff. Clears any monthly operating cash deficits as needed.
  • Creates cost analysis and forecasts budgetary needs for the Academic Affairs functional areas on spending trends and revenue flow in self-support budgets and recommends adjustment.
  • Updates the Associate/Assistant Vice Presidents and Directors of budget availability, encumbrances, commitments, and internal or external funding requests for college. Communicates decisions and requests to university administration on budget and fiscal matters, as appropriate. Serves as the principal advisor in regard to budgetary updates, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with the Associate/Assistant Vice Presidents and Directors to ensure appropriate funding for college personnel requirements.
  • Identifies budgetary concerns and recommends solutions.
  • Monitors EWU Foundation fund balances and approves expenses as appropriate. Update account forms as needed.
  • Generates self-sustaining funding distributions for all college self-support programs.
  • Provides budgetary support for grants and contracts.
