We are seeking an Applications Development Engineer to join our team. This role is a key contributor to customer success with Nuvera Fuel Cell Engines and Power Systems. This technology expert is customer facing (60/40 - internal/external), tasked with assisting senior-level team members in the successful integration of fuel cell products into customer vehicles and similar applications. The areas of ownership include data simulation, analysis, and technical documentation development.
The individual assists in product proof of performance activities and demonstrations in support of dealer and major account sales. They collect detailed technical performance data during alpha demonstrations and beta test campaigns, and generate content incorporated into professional reports.
Essential Responsibilities:
Relationship Management
  • Work cross-functionally within Nuvera to develop customer-facing product information necessary for successful technology integration by a customer. Requires detailed understanding of product design documentation and production, including software, hardware components, electrical wiring, mechanical, configuration, piping & instrumentation diagrams (PID), and manufacturing processes.
  • Work with customers to collect technical information and data necessary to analyze and document product characteristics and parameters specific to a customer application.
  • Participate in formal and coordinate informal internal reviews of product application assessments to effectively communicate the application outcome and influence product design changes.
  • Participate in formal and informal internal and external technical meetings (Nuvera, suppliers, and customers) and follow assigned program activities and actions to closure.
  • Dedicated to high-performance of team and committed to customer satisfaction.
Demo Execution
  • Demonstrations and “proof-of-performance” campaigns will be set up by sales for key new accounts. These will require technical execution, monitoring, troubleshooting, data collection, and reporting.
OEM Qualification
  • Qualification and certification of Nuvera fuel cell products in original equipment manufacturers’ (OEM) vehicles will be required in many applications to support sales and supply contracts. These will require technical execution, monitoring, troubleshooting, data collection, and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
Educational Background
B.S. or M.S. in salient engineering or technical field
Previous Work Experience
3+ years of engineering design and development
1+ years of project/program/product management
Special Skills, Experience and Abilities
  • Solid grounding in scientific and engineering fundamentals and methods.
  • Strong understanding of materials, design, analysis, fabrication, prototyping, manufacturing processes, simulation, experimentation, and data analysis.
  • Proficient problem-solving and troubleshooting acumen.
  • Ability to create mathematical models and perform parametric studies, simulations.
  • Familiar with control logic documentation standards and communication protocols.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Passionate curiosity and disposition to learn.
  • High degree of customer orientation.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective at managing multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Interpersonal and communications skills: positive outlook, enthusiasm, and proven ability to professionally communicate and interact with diverse personalities and cultures.
Embedded firmware/software development for complex controls a plus
Lithium-ion battery systems engineering experience a plus
Automotive vehicle controls integration with CAN communication experience a plus

Position may requires up to 10% travel (domestic and international) and the ability to work effectively in a variety of industries and environments.
