Paul Thiebaud Gallery is seeking a self-motivated and professional individual to join our team as a full-time Art Handler/Art Preparator. Qualified candidates must have art handling, installation and storage experience in a commercial gallery or similar environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Proper and safe handling works of art and art objects.
• Execute all show rotations, including preparation of physical gallery space, installation of signage and adjustment of lighting.
• Pack works of art for shipping using soft-pack wrap, boxing and crating methods for packaging, loading and securing safe transport. Make local deliveries in gallery box truck and/or vehicle.
• Maintain proper art storage in an organized manner and keep storage tidy at all times.
• Coordinate and execute all incoming/outgoing shipments.
• Maintain day-to-day condition of gallery and warehouse, handle repairs, lighting maintenance, patching and painting walls from drywall to masonry and identification of safety issues.
• Keep gallery box truck in good working order and appearance.
• Preparation for all gallery receptions and ancillary events at gallery.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position is required.
• Experience and ability to execute safe handling, wrapping and packing of artworks, including works on paper and prints, for various methods of transport.
• Knowledge of different installation and deinstallation methods including hardware, tools, and best handling practices for painting, sculpture, and ceramics for exhibitions and private viewings.
• Possess basic framing, carpentry and painting skills. Skilled in security hanging measures and techniques. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and safely operate power tools.
• Ability to take initiative as well as to work with others. Excellent communication, organization and time management skills.
• Polite, professional demeanor when collecting, delivering, and installing in client homes and artist studios.
• Regular business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm. The position will occasionally require work outside of regular gallery hours for art fairs or client appointments.
• Possess a valid California Driver’s License, with a clean driving record and experience driving a box truck is required.
• Familiarity with Mac OS, FileMaker Pro and Adobe Photoshop preferred.

Salary:

• Salary is commensurate with experience. Medical, dental and vision insurance, along with paid vacation, are included in the benefits package.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
