ELEMENT BY WESTIN MINNEAPOLIS DOWNTOWN/NORTH LOOP
Job Title: Assistant General Manager
Reports To: Hotel General Manager
Supervises Directly: Guest Service Representatives, Night Auditors, and Guest Service
Supervisors. Averages 10 to 12 employees.
Purpose for the Position:
To assist the General Manager in managing the hotel's operations, maintaining established revenue, cost, and quality standards. To manage the hotel’s Guest Service
(Front Desk) department, ensuring high levels of guest service and satisfaction and high-quality services and standards, while maintaining established operational standards, maximizing hotel profits, and motivating the team to achieve the highest level of room sales at the highest possible rate. Acts in the capacity of Manager on Duty, as required.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Directly supervises Front Desk staff, encouraging positive behaviors and promoting teamwork. This includes, but is not limited to interviewing, hiring, training and development, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Schedules subordinates, maintaining adequate staffing levels while adhering to labor standards guidelines. Monitors payroll entries for accuracy and processing.
2. Increases the level of guest satisfaction by delivering a superior product through employee development, job engineering, and a high-quality image.
3. Develops short and long term financial and operational plans for Front
Desk/Rooms departments, relating them to overall hotel objectives. Maintains productivity and labor cost goals.
4. Achieves budgeted revenues and expenses, maximizing Rooms profitability.
5. Manages the Reservation function to ensure the highest possible room occupancy and ADR.
6. Inputs data into property management and reservation systems, including group reservation activity, blocking rooms, etc. Reviews daily reports, reservation system bulletin boards, and availability screens.
7. Stays current on upcoming events and conventions, as well as hotel rates, strategies, discounts, and promotions.
8. Ensures that all Front Desk staff members can answer guest inquiries pertaining to hotel services, shopping, dining, entertainment, etc.
9. Establishes and maintains cost control systems for the Front Desk and the
Market. Manages inventory, places orders, and accepts shipments.
10. Receives hotel-related guest complaints and ensures corrective action is taken.
Reviews the Service Recovery System on a regular basis to confirm issues are being entered/handled properly by Front Desk associates. Performs Service
Recovery follow-ups with guests.
11. Ensures the Front Desk, Market, Lobby, and Business Center areas are clean and organized at all times.
12. Manages the Front Desk department in compliance with established hotel and department policies and procedures, as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations and safety standards.
13. Maintains established Emergency Procedures and ensures the security of guests and hotel assets. Ensures that all department staff are trained in and follow established emergency procedures.
14. Performs property walks to ensure the property is clean, well-maintained, and free of safety hazards; takes care of areas needing attention or notifies the appropriate staff member to handle it.
15. Oversees and directs the work of Breakfast Service staff in the absence of the
General Manager.
16. Participates in preparation of the annual hotel budget.
17. Attends weekly management meetings to stay informed of hotel business.
Schedules and leads meetings as needed for department staff.
18. Additional tasks and projects as assigned.
Requirements:

- Provide assistance and remain calm in cases of emergency or danger.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
