Oconee State Park has all of the perks of a relaxing mountain getaway. The Oconee State Park campground, Rustic, CCC-era cabins and a lake with a swimming hole, canoe rentals and fishing opportunities are only a sample of the park’s offerings.

Several wooded nature trails wind through the foothills region and serve as the southern trailhead for the Foothills Trail, South Carolina’s 77-mile wilderness hike on the Blue Ridge Escarpment.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty administering and supervising the operation, fiscal management, maintenance, interpretation, protection and conservation of Oconee State Park. This operation has a wide variety of recreational activities and facilities. Performs duties governed generally by broad instructions, objectives, and policies as defined by the Agency. Involves choice of action within broad guidelines for a variety of conditions and problems.

1) Effectively manages all park operations and ensures that directly supervised employees are accurately performing job responsibilities.
2) Directs staff to ensure that Oconee and Oconee Station's facilities, equipment, and property are maintained to the standards set forth by the department. Works to provide a safe environment for park visitors and employees.
3) Ensure that all park staff are training according to agency standards.
4) Create and implement plans for campground and cabin stabilization and occupancy growth.
5) Provides required reports to supervisor and other agency representatives.
6) Ensures that park operations are evaluated and adjusted for operating in the most cost efficient manner possible.
7) Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.
8) Train new personnel according to park service standards.

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Park Management, or related field and five (5) years experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity related to State Park operations.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, bending, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Works with office equipment such as computers, calculators, etc.
2) Position requires residence in agency-provided housing as well as a flexible work schedule that includes rotating shift, weekends, and holidays.
3) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
4) Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.


Actual Job Location: Oconee State Park.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
