Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Transformation
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer (CSTO), the Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Transformation directs overall enterprise-wide strategy development and implementation, working closely with senior leadership. Leads Stony Brook Medicine and the Life Science’s Strategy Management process and assures goals are met. Oversees the department of Strategy Design and Implementation, Strategic Informatics and Innovation.
Duties of an Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Transformation may include the following but are not limited to:
- In partnership with the CSTO, sets the strategic plan for the enterprise involving key members of senior administrative and physician leadership in the process.
- Designs, develops, and directs the overall strategy management process ensuring it is data-driven and outcomes-oriented.
- Ensures sound and effective processes are in place to optimize strategy management functions. Ensures timely and accurate documentation of the results of activities and key measures of success.
- Ensures the ongoing analysis of systems and processes to identify opportunities for improvement in the strategy management process. Leads the implementation of process improvements.
- Monitors, in partnership with senior leaders, the measured outcomes of strategy action plans, identifies opportunities for improvement, and leads strategic activities to improve those measured outcomes.
- Serves as the Executive Leader of the Departments of Strategy Development and Implementation, Innovation, and Strategic Analytics.
- Ensures growth and physician-specific data is trended and made available for business planning.
- Ensures all required measures are collected, validated for data integrity, and reported to appropriate leaders for action planning and accountability.
- Ensures staff development, counseling, performance evaluations, and hiring of positions for all direct reporting areas and models all Leadership Commitments. (attached)
- Develops and maintains policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.
- Manages the budget for areas of direct responsibility.
- Works collaboratively with all executives and key stakeholders across the enterprise.
- Ensures rigorous, data driven business plans are developed to support strategy initiatives.
- Facilitates, supports, and organizes strategy and innovation teams and provides staff support for such teams.
- Ensures that strategy and innovation teams are effectively structured and managed to meet hospital, regional and corporate strategic objectives.
- Remains current concerning industry-wide, best practices and collaboration and consistently employs and encourages best practices.
- Educates Governing Body and hospital administrative staff concerning current trends in disruptive and innovative strategy. Assesses Stony Brook Medicine’s risk and performance in relationship to these trends and makes appropriate recommendations for change.
- Maintains and regularly updates strategy oversite teams/committees.
- Works with appropriate education staff to assure that hospital and medical staff education activities reflect recommendations formulated by process improvement committees.
- Ensures education of regulatory standards and compliance by all direct report departments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in any health related field
- Minimum of 10 years of strategy, hospital or consultation experience.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in healthcare leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills required
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Proficiency with computer systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or Doctorate Degree in any health related field
- Bachelors of healthcare management, business management preferred, with experience in strategic planning/implementation, human centered design, and Jobs to be Done Theory.

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulation that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19,” Candidates who are not already partially vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of acceptance of conditional job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol Candidates who are partially vaccinated, but not yet fully vaccinated, must complete their vaccination series within three (3) calendar days of job offer or in accordance with vaccine manufacture protocol, whichever comes later.

- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
