Binghamton University Auxiliary Services enhances the university experience for students, staff, faculty, and alumni with the provision of important services including Binghamton University Dining Services (BUDS), which partners with Sodexo to deliver quality meals with superior service to the campus. BUDS works with the Student Culinary Council, a student-led organization dedicated to continuously improving the dining experience on campus in exciting and new ways.
In addition, Auxiliary Services manages the relationships between the campus and partners such as banking services (Visions Federal Credit Union), the Binghamton Bookstore (Barnes & Noble), the Campus Pre-School, Pouring Rights (Coca-Cola), Vending services, Laundry services, Campus Food Pantry, and BU Acres. Auxiliary Services also oversees the Binghamton Auxiliary Services Corporation (BASC), a non-profit corporation created to ensure superior services and enhance revenue generating opportunities for campus.
Recently, the Binghamton University Foundation purchased the Binghamton Tennis Center in May 2022. An affiliate of BASC (BASC Mill Street, LLC) has assumed management of the center's
operations and oversight of upcoming renovations. The Binghamton Tennis Center is the official year-round home of the Binghamton University Bearcats Division I varsity tennis teams, and remains open to the public, offering contracts, memberships, tournaments, clinics, lessons and more.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Associate Director of Strategic Operations will provide leadership and oversight of Auxiliary Services core operations which will include but not be limited to facility management, personnel management, business operations, fiscal and regulatory compliance, capital improvement projects and community outreach.
- In collaboration with the Director of Auxiliary Services, participate in the strategic planning and implementation of long/short term strategic goals, revenue targets, resource management and stewardship, and community and customer service-related priorities.
- Assist in the coordination of matters relating to financial planning and business operations of specific units including, but not limited to purchasing, procurement, timely and accurate accounts receivable/invoicing, contracts, retail operations and vendor contracts/fee payments.
- Work closely with administrative team members to monitor budgets, review revenue and expenditures, and analyze fiscal performance of partners and affiliates.
- Responsible for strictly adhering to timelines and processes in the development and production of Auxiliary Partner Contract Renewals and RFP's.
- Management oversight of the Binghamton Tennis Center. Supervision of specific staff, including but not limited to Development and Programming Director and Member Services Coordinator as direct reports.
- Oversight of the Campus Food Pantry daily operations and short-term planning.
- Management and oversight of the campus-wide initiative for Conferences and Events, to include management of events requiring cross-departmental cooperation, issuance of Revokable Permits and communication and accountability resulting in the successful relationship management and execution of external events.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management and renewal of small Partner agreements which may include but not be limited to Microfridge, Commencement Photos, Athletics licensing.
- Responsible for Property Management of satellite Auxiliary operations.
- Assist with Auxiliary Services Capital Projects as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field required, and a successful record of progressively increasing responsibilities including at least 5-7 years professional experience, preferably in higher education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of auxiliary services and best practices and trends in higher education leadership and administration.
- Effective leadership skills, demonstrated experience developing effective partnerships and working in a collaborative manner.
- Firm grasp of business processes, experience in managing across units, operating within a complex network of relationships with proven experience in contract management, business office operations, project management, financial management and other related experience.
- Cultural competence with the ability to lead in a dynamic community with a diverse student body.
- Experience and/or knowledge of managing programs and/or retail operations.
- Auxiliary Services is expanding the team and looking for someone who can adapt to change, is open to innovation and who can work both independently and collaboratively with multiple partners on and off-campus.
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in business or a relevant field of study.
- Experience developing RFP's, negotiating and managing contracts, and developing effective business relationships.
- CASP certification.
