THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a creative and energetic associate editor to join our close-knit team at
Storyworks 3.
Storyworks is an award-winning print and digital magazine that inspires over a million children across the country to become dynamic readers, writers, and thinkers. The editor will wear many hats, assisting in all aspects of creating our magazine and its digital resources. The right candidate has a can-do attitude, expansive curiosity, and is just as excited about pitching a topic for an immersive nonfiction story or writing an engaging debate as they are crafting the perfect quiz question. The editor should be deadline-driven, eager to learn and grow, and constantly searching for new ways to inspire our readers and teachers.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Brainstorm fascinating new article topics and features for the magazine.

Write engaging short articles and sidebars that are well-calibrated to the interests and abilities of third graders.

Edit some features to meet appropriate reading levels for third graders.

Help brainstorm and create age-appropriate skills pages and lesson plans that turn our stories into powerful teaching tools.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to freelancers and staff members.

Work with production and digital team to traffic lesson plans and activity sheets to ensure all content is published on time.

Stay abreast of changes in third-grade standards, curriculum, and reading pedagogy.

Communicate with teachers on a variety of platforms including social media.

Other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications
HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)

Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills; experience writing and editing for children a plus

Strong interest in the world of third graders and best teaching practices for this age range; teaching background or degree in education a plus

Ability to juggle many tasks, both big picture and those requiring meticulous detail, in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment

Ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit, collaborative team
