Job description

Provide services as a Bioinformatics Scientist (Genomics) in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Cellular Immunology Section (CIS) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop bioinformatics pipelines for single-cell and bulk genomics datasets.
  • Implement and use workflows for ATAC-seq and spatial transcriptomics.
  • Contextualize genomics data in immunological systems.
  • Analyze data from mouse and nonhuman primate models of infection.
  • Integrate data across modalities.
  • Oversee current genomics analyses and mentor junior scientists.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team.
  • Effectively communicate with experimental and computational researchers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • MA/MSc or PhD with 4+ years of experience.
  • Experience must be from a related field (i.e., Bioinformatics, Computational Science).
  • Programming expertise in multiple languages (i.e., Python, SQL, R, etc.).
  • Experience with HPC clusters and use of command line tools and scripting.
  • Statistical and mathematical modeling capabilities.
  • Experience troubleshooting and exploring various existing scientific analysis tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge of Immunology or infectious disease is highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
