BASIC PURPOSE
The Double Punches Boxing Club Director executes the lawful and proper directions of the Corps Officers to devise, develop, execute and supervise the boxing programs of The Salvation Army policies and procedures. This position will work collaboratively with subordinate and parallel staff to cultivate assorted community resources (i.e. business groups and service clubs) and will actively promote, advertise and recruit attendees and future volunteer leaders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The director will oversee all aspects of the program, including supervision of coaches and volunteer staff. He will work with the Volunteer Coordinator and Corps Program Assistant to provide an adequate number of tutors for the academic assistance component of the program.
- The director will greet participants and their families; explain the program and answer questions.
- The director will direct meetings. Prepare agendas and take minutes if Admin Asst is unable to attend.
- Working in conjunction with the Accounting Clerk, the director will collect program fees and properly receipt such fees. The director will also assist the Corps Officers in the preparation of the annual budget and provide input as necessary for the financial needs of the boxing program.
- The director will prepare grant reports and future grant writing for the boxing program and administer such grants as required in conjunction with the Corps Officers.
- The director will maintain communication with parents of participants to address any problems on a timely basis.
- The director will be in charge of selecting events and tournaments in which the club will participate. The director will ensure that matches are made in accordance with USA Boxing rules about age, weight, and experience, and will also assure that athletes selected for competition are in shape and ready.
- The director will plan and organize youth events for the boxing club, in conjunction with the Corps Officers. He will select and schedule training seminars and plan public presentations and demonstrations.
- The director will ensure that all measures are taken for the safety of the participants, the public, and the staff.
- The director will be responsible for determining that all equipment is functioning according to safety standers, and that new equipment is purchased as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements
- Minimum High School Graduate or GED with demonstrated acumen and understanding of business concepts, grammar, spelling and math activities.
- Must have basic computer skills, e.g. familiar with Microsoft office.
- Must be independently motivated yet be able to work cooperatively and cordially in a team setting.
- Must possess a Level II Boxing license through USA Boxing Inc,.
- A valid California Driver’s License and at least 21 years of age with driving performance history sufficient to allow continued insurance coverage by Salvation Army underwriting guidelines is required.
Skills
- The ability to relate to and communicate with children and adults in a clear, positive manner.
- The ability to teach boxing skills and oversee other coaches and teachers to accomplish this discipline.
- An awareness of the special needs of youth at risk for gang involvement and the ability to help them find ways to re-direct their energy into positive directions.
Physical Requirements:
- To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform the essential duties with or without accommodation. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; use hands; stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee needs to be in good physical condition, be able to demonstrate the required disciplines of exercise and boxing. Specific vison abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Vision may be corrected by lenses to achieve this requirement.
