For 60 years Cherokee Country Club has served as Madison’s only private facility to offer an 18-hole golf course, all-season golf range, indoor and outdoor tennis, pickleball, and outdoor pool. Our Sports Lounge and banquette halls host casual and fine dining opportunities of intimate proportions, 30 or less, and large celebrations of 200 plus guests. We are looking for a responsible mechanic who would be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all turf equipment for the golf course, the golf car fleet and vehicles. This role would also handle specific club house maintenance to maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the club. It is important for this person to be careful and thorough in making sure building maintenance is always maintained and sections of the building are locked and secure. Attention to detail is important. The ideal candidate will be experienced in maintenance and repair as it relates to building upkeep. This position needs to be a self- motivated individual with exceptional organizational skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work as a team with current staff. A keen eye for detail and diligence are imperative in this maintenance role. The ability to operate heavy equipment is a bonus.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all equipment and company vehicles (according to mfg. maintenance plan based on their specifications) during both in-season and off-season months.
- Knowledge and experience in repairing diesel and gasoline powered equipment, hydraulic and electrical systems, welding, and fabrication.
- Develop a cutting unit maintenance program to keep reels and blades performing and maintaining a quality of cut for maximum golf course appearance and performance.
- Accurate record keeping, parts/tool inventory, budget management and reporting.
- Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course machines including diesel, electric and gasoline powered mowers, golf cars, trucks, trimmers, tractors and other equipment.
- Maintain safe, meticulously clean, and organized shop, parts room, maintenance buildings and grounds.
- Participation in training of staff regarding preventative maintenance, safe operation, and cleaning of equipment
- Understanding of how equipment performance and efficiency impacts production, course playing conditions and member satisfaction.
- Willingness to work 40 hours/week and every third weekend during the golf season. 2 weekends off, one on rotation. Offseason is 40 hours/week. Optional: 4, 10-hour day schedule during off season. Tuesday through Friday or Monday through Thursday.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches, fixing door handles, minor leaks etc.)
- Report major damages and oversee repairs
- Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm
- Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc. providing condo lawn maintenance and snow removal)
- Knowledge of the game of golf a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Skills
- Proven experience in a similar role
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
- Familiarity with basic handyman practices
- Attention to detail and conscientiousness
- Integrity and ability to work independently
- Very good physical condition and strength
- High school diploma is preferred but not required
- Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery is a huge bonus to this role.
