Job description
The Cellar Worker is responsible for performing cellar and barrel room activities under the direction of the Assistant Winemaker and Winemaker.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by supervisor.
Cellar:
- Clean, sanitize and sterilize equipment.
- Wine movements - empty and fill tanks and barrels, top barrels, transfer wine, load and unload tanker trucks, etc.
- Operate equipment such as pumps, filters, de-stemmers, guth mixers, presses, etc.
- Apply good housekeeping practices.
- Measure and calculate and record routine workplace data.
- Responsible for compliance with sustainability policies and practices. This is done by supporting programs for conservation, energy efficiency, and recycling, which are critical for our operations to achieve tangible environmental results.
- Safety: follow safe operating procedures, support safety programs and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and team member’s safety.
Bottling Operation: Occasional support of the bottling line as needed
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- High School diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred relevant work experience
- Minimum 2 years Cellar/Bottling experience
- Knowledge of safety procedures in the Cellar environment
- Experience with forklift operations a plus. Forklift certification preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders.
- Basic math skills, including, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Fluent in English, excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate and work well with others, including supervisors, and co-workers.
- Must be available to work scheduled days and have flexibility to work different schedules or hours when necessary.
- Must be willing to perform any other job functions deemed necessary by management.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Lift and/or move 50 pounds
- Must be able to work long hours, up to 6 days a week, and varying shifts, including night shift
- Walk on uneven surfaces inside and outside and in the vineyards (including hillsides)
- Stand, squat, stoop, bend at waist and legs
- Use hands, fingers, reach, touch, see, hear, smell
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Winery bottling: exposed to high noise levels when bottling line is running; exposure to moving parts and fumes from the winemaking process.
- Winery operations: exposed to hazardous materials, occasional noisy equipment, indoor and outdoor conditions.
