Facility: Trenton and Buffalo Plants

General Description

The Chemical Engineer is responsible for creating, identifying, and documenting process-control criteria for polymer and elastomer materials at Hutchinson Industries. Development of cost-effective solutions for new and existing products.

Specific Duties

• Support R&D with Raw Material Selection and integration for new products
• Identify product materials that integrate with current processes
• Troubleshoot and define process control criteria where needed
• Troubleshoot and recommend material handling methods for production
• Define specifications, criteria, and other requirements for material sourcing
• Develop and maintain a process for regulatory compliance for environmental requirements
• Monitor environmental regulatory requirements and make recommendations to facility and safety management

Qualifications

• Possess technical mastery of polymer and elastomer materials
• Strong communications and teaching skills
• Demonstrated ability to learn and improve existing processes
• Ability to multi-task and progress several projects simultaneously
• Ability to objectively collaborate in a fact-based manner

• Strong planning and organizational skills

• BS or MS in Plastics, Chemical Engineering
• 10+ years of experience in plastics processing operations

Personal Protective Equipment

• Safety Glasses conforming to ANSI Z87.1 or higher (required for entering mfg. area)
• Gloves for general protection (as needed). Note: Gloves are never to be used around any rotating equipment (lathes, drums, windups, etc.)
• Ear Protection (Noise Reduction Rating 33 dB - as needed)
• Safety Shoes conforming to ASTM F2413-05 PT Class 75 Protective Toe (when working in the Test Lab)

The employee frequently is required to sit; walk, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, for viewing a computer terminal distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception vision for driving and ability to adjust focus.

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
