Job description
This position is located in the Chief of Staff's Office.
Advances DHEC’s strategic vision by developing and maintaining expertise in federal and state specific requirements and trends that impact health equity and diversity initiatives including a Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) framework. Provides guidance and direction to DHEC leadership and staff based on this expertise and research. Functions as a resource for staff and partners related to evidence-based strategies that address health disparities and inequities.
Develops and grows authentic relationships and partnerships with government agencies, community organizations, and coalitions to eliminate health disparities and address the Social Determinants of Health, including environmental factors in South Carolina. Raises awareness about health disparities and the Social Determinants of Health by developing and evaluating data and presentations as appropriate. Collaborates with diversity and inclusion officers at other state agencies and universities on strategic initiatives.
Works to continuously improve professional processes, communications, training opportunities, events, and activities to reinforce an inclusive culture at DHEC. Ensures programming and events are in alignment with DHEC’s strategic vision for an equitable and inclusive culture. Works to ensure all South Carolinians are reached by DHEC programs/services, identifies groups that may not have equal access for whatever reason, and works with those groups and the agency to address these issues. Oversees the Agency’s translation and interpretation services and contracts to ensure accessibility to services.
Supports capacity-building and coordination of activities with DHEC staff within DHEC Central Office and the regions in the development, implementation, and reporting of initiatives. This could include (but is not limited to) setting goals, priorities, success metrics, and measuring impact.
Performs fundamental supervisory and leadership functions in accordance with agency policies and procedures, best practices and Federal and State rules and regulations, especially with regard to Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) standards. Maintains an effective organizational team and motivates diverse staff to accomplish mission critical operations and objectives. Promotes workforce engagement and a safe, professional, and productive work environment for all employees.
State Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and relevant program management experience.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
