Job Opening Summary
The clinical documentation coordinator is a physician, physician assistant, advanced practice nurse practitioner or registered nurse with a high level of clinical proficiency necessary for the oversight of the clinical documents on a team of registered nurses. Must oversee the review processes of complex patients of different ages and development in acute and chronic disease states. Must have proven leadership and management skills to promote effective and efficient review of physician documents to support the patient's level of care and appropriate assignment of DRGs and to develop action plans for improvement. Must have knowledge and job experience in supervision of personnel. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, physicians, nurse practitioners, PAs and the department managers for Revenue Integrity, Coding and Data Quality, Case Management and Health Information Management. Requires skill and leadership in managing the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Documents department team of registered nurses, and manages the staffing and training needs to meet the expected requirements of UFHCF. Provides ongoing Clinical Documents on Improvement program education for new staff, including new registered nurses, physicians, nurses and allied health professionals. Tracks and trends program compliance. Assumes responsibility for professional development by participating in workshops, conferences and/or in-services and maintains appropriate records of participation.

Education- Associate's degree
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- RN, PA, advanced practice nurse practitioner in Florida or medical graduate with applicable experience
- Valid driver's license
- Clinical skills competency assessment

- Must be able to read, write in, speak and understand English.
Special Skills and Experience:
- Advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes with broad based clinical experience in an inpatient setting.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direction to Clinical Documentation departments and coding specialists with relation to clinical documentation issues.
- Broad knowledge of insurance regulations and Medicare and Medicaid guidelines.
- Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively with multiple constituents.
- Proficient in negotiating complex systems to elect positive change.
- Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
- Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining records and written reports.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians, hospitals and vendors.
- Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to analyze complex clinical scenarios and apply critical thinking.
- Extensive knowledge of reimbursement systems.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation and coding.
- Extensive knowledge of treatment methodology, patient care assessment, data collection techniques and coding classification systems is necessary.
- Serves as a resource on DRG issues.
- Participates on departmental and hospital committees and task forces as assigned.
- Complies with UFHCF policies on patient confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements, Code of Conduct and Behavioral Standards.
