Function/Duties of Position:

A full-time research assistant position is available to assist in research with human volunteers in auditory perception and cognition. This position will in the research laboratory of Dr. Frederick Gallun, Ph.D., in the Oregon Hearing Research Center in the Department of Otolaryngology at the Oregon Health and Sciences University. This position is funded by NIDCD/NIH grants.
Individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher with experience working with human subjects in the fields of hearing research or audiology are especially qualified to apply.
- Identification and recruitment of candidate subjects for research, collecting data related to hearing and cognition, and data management.
- Additional responsibilities include assisting in data analysis, assisting with manuscript preparation, assisting students, postdocs, residents, and fellows with experiments, and presentation of data at research conferences.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, ordering supplies, and additional responsibilities that contribute to the maintenance of lab operations.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in hearing science, audiology, psychology, or related field. OR
- Associate's AND 2 years of relevant experience OR
- 3 years of relevant experience OR
- Equivalent combination of training and experience.
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):
- Must have good oral and written English communication skills.
- Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with human subjects, including older volunteers and people with a history of traumatic brain injury, in a research environment.
- Must be methodical and organized in collecting and documenting processes and data.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience:

Previous experience in a clinical and/or human research setting, especially in hearing or audiology.

Experience in developing and evaluating computer applications.
Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

Knowledge of perceptual or cognitive psychology.

Knowledge of computer application development and usability testing.

Knowledge of audiology.

Skilled in working with older adults with hearing loss.

Skilled in working with patients with a history of traumatic brain injury.
