Summary:
Provides direct clinical services to individuals in the community; including but not limited to
evaluation/assessment; home & community-based services; outreach; case and care management; individual and
family therapy and crisis intervention. Responds to needs of victims of adult sexual assault by providing services
in a victim-centered, trauma-informed, culturally and linguistically competent manner. Assists victims through
provision of advocacy, case management, crisis counseling by using evidence based models such as the Seeking
Safety model. Collaborates with team members in coordination with other agencies and community service
providers

Essential Responsibilities and Target Outcomes:
Develops and maintains recovery- oriented therapeutic relationships with individuals through ongoing

assessment, individual and group therapy, both onsite and in the community.
 Maintains all trainings and certifications as required by program model.
 Collaborates with client, team, and natural supports to develop client-centered treatment plans.
 Manages emergency and crisis situations both on-site and in the community.
 Acts in accordance with mandated reporting laws.
 Completes assessment tools, integrates pertinent information to establish diagnoses, and analyzes data to

create clinical formulation within designated timeframe.
 Completes documentation within designated timeframes as established by CMHA and external regulatory

agencies. 
Acts in accordance with program and agency regulatory bodies, including but not limited to: state, federal,

Joint Commission, DCF, and DMHAS.
 Provides culturally responsive, trauma-informed care in accordance with professional codes of ethics. 
Promotes a harm-reduction approach to enhance client recovery. 
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Principal Customers: Individuals referred or seeking mental health and/or co-occurring treatment.

Critical Work Relationships:
CMHA departments, teams, and staff.
 External providers of ancillary services

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Master’s Degree in behavioral health (psychology, social work, counseling,

marriage and family therapy, alcohol and drug counseling).
Credentials and Licenses: License eligible and hold a preliminary license in one of the following areas

LPCA, LMSW, LMFTA

Valid Connecticut Driver’s License

Experience: Successful experience in mental health or related field, preferably a minimum of
1-3 years.

For Spanish Speaking Applicants: Bilingual/Bicultural
(English/Spanish/Latino/a) and knowledge of cultural values, traditions
and practices.

Beginner to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products including
Word and Outlook.
Experience in or the ability or willingness to learn how to use an Electronic
Medical Record (EMR) system, which includes appointment scheduling,
authorization tracking, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and
discharge summaries.

 Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing a number of
priorities based on workload and deadlines both onsite and in the
community.

 Knowledge of physical, medical, and pharmacological issues related to
substance abuse. Educates clients on issues associated with chemical
dependency treatment using a harm reduction approach

 Knowledge of developmental issues for the full range of clients in
diagnosing and determining treatment programs that result in positive
client progress. 

Efficient time management skills, flexibility regarding scheduling, and
the ability to multi-task in the completion of job responsibilities.

 Effective interpersonal and communication skills with individuals with
mental health and co-occurring disorders, as well as with their
families/caregivers and natural support systems.

 Motivated and able to work as a team player, collaborating with peers
and staff on formulating appropriate diagnoses and treatment
programs.

 Ability to understand and incorporate recovery based treatment,
language, and interventions into documentation and daily operations.

 Ability to utilize the DSM-IV and identify clinical diagnoses in
formulation of appropriate treatment for clients.

 Awareness/sensitivity to all types of issues related to client and staff
diversity.

 Ability to ensure the security and confidentiality of client information
and records in a manner consistent with professional and CMHA codes
of ethics.
