Apple Cloud Infrastructure is seeking a new team member interested in engineering at the intersection of hardware, operating systems, and database performance. As a member of the Caching team, you’ll partner with datacenter engineering and operating systems teams to identify and take advantage of opportunities to improve efficiency, stability, and performance. Your work will be deployed at massive scale, serving millions of queries per second over hundreds of terabytes of cache across our data centers worldwide. It also has huge impact, forming the platform upon which many iCloud and other internet services at Apple are built. Key Qualifications
- Experience in operating distributed databases.
- Understanding of hardware fundamentals (system components and how they interact).
- Familiarity with datacenter concepts (networking, rack topology, power and performance).
- Linux kernel experience - e.g., filesystems, kernel tuneables and their influence on latency/performance
- Curiosity and drive to learn, ability to apply existing knowledge to new concepts and new domains in dialogue with others.
Description
Apple Cloud Infrastructure’s Caching team modifies the open source technology for Apple needs and builds tools to offer caching service at massive scale. We are seeking engineers interested in opportunities to improve the efficiency and performance of our service through tighter integration with the kernel, operating system, and datacenter hardware. This work requires an innovative spirit, creative thinking, and a high degree of rigor in engineering. Your work will draw together knowledge across domains and bridge many teams to influence how we design and operate the cache Infrastructure that power Apple’s services. Job Duties involve: * Design, Develop, Prototype and implement large scale distributed systems * Write software in Java, Go, Python and C * Work with cross functional teams; collaborate on product requirements and design * Find and fix software, performance and scalability issues * Access and address security vulnerabilities in the system * Improve software quality and maintainability * Ensure operational stability of the system. Monitor and resolve production issues * Participate in production operations This role also requires excellent communication, ability to partner with many teams, and customer focus. Prior experience with caching systems / distributed databases is recommended.
Education & Experience
BS or MS in Computer Science / related fields or equivalent work experience.

Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $144,500 and $250,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
