Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for performing a variety of patient care activities to assist providers and nursing personnel in a specialty clinic. Facilitates patient/physician/provider communication and coordination of care.
Job Functions
- Escorts patients to examination room and obtains vitals and documents in EMR
- Supports physician in documentation of patient’s visit by entering physician’s dictation in to the EMR system during the patients visit
- Administers prescribed medications/vaccine’s and treatments in accordance with clinic policies and scope of certification/licensure
- Prepares equipment and assists providers during examination, testing and treatment of patients
- Performs room turn over in patient rooms between cases and at the end of day
- Performs specialty procedures/tests as directed by the Physician
- Helps maintain stocked supplies and sterilizes instruments/exam rooms
- Assists in arranging referrals/prior authorizations as necessary
- Provides patient education
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Education/Work Experience/License/Certifications
- Graduation from Medical Assisting program or School of Practical Nursing
- Current LPN Licensure or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (LPN’s/ MA’s will have 1 year to become licensed/certified in order to maintain employment)
- Current CPR certification
Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to effectively handle high-stress fast paced environment
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to serve patients in a friendly and efficient manner
- Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
- Ability to work autonomously and as a team
- Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
Preferred Qualification
- EMR experience
- 2+ years Urgent Care experience
