We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Commercial Rail Fleet & Truck Manager with our corporate office located in Dallas, TX.
This position is responsible for the commercial development, negotiation and management of railcar lease/buy and truck related agreements in compliance with corporate policy and objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Manages and negotiates Motor Carrier and Railcar Lease/Buy agreements, including freight and service requirements, and related accessorial service costs in compliance with corporate policy.
- Responsible for major motor carrier freight bids, including the development of strategic objectives, bidding, analyzing, negotiating, and obtaining internal approvals and agreement on contract terms and conditions.
- Responsible for major railcar bids, including the development of strategic objectives, bidding, analyzing, negotiating, and obtaining internal approvals and agreement on contract terms and conditions.
- Develops negotiating strategies considering the cost of alternate logistics, and market competitive impacts.
- Provides truck and transload logistic support to Sales, Marketing, Demand Chain Planning, Finance, Raw Material Purchasing, and customers.
- Maintains contacts and good working relationships with carriers, railcar vendors and internal stakeholders. Develops and leads business review meetings.
- Interacts with Truck Operations to ensure that appropriate truck service is maintained and takes ownership for the resolution of systemic truck service issues that are beyond the scope of Truck Operations.
- Interacts with Rail Operations to ensure alignment in rail fleet strategy.
- Interacts with Demand Chain Planning to ensure that appropriate product storage (transload) service is maintained and takes ownership for the resolution of systemic product storage service issues that are beyond the scope of Demand Chain Planning.
- Ensures that SAP truck transportation data is maintained accurately, and that invoice and payment discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner.
- Uses analytic tools to track performance, identify opportunities and drive for better decision making. Ensures that corporate reporting tools accurately reflect the true cost of logistic services.
- Submits and resolves claims against motor carriers and vendors in the event of incident, product contamination, etc.
- Identifies and qualifies new motor carriers with input from Truck Operations. Involves HESS as appropriate for evaluating new contractual agreements and support for an incident involving a logistics vendor.
- Direct the activities of a Transportation Analyst.
- BS or BA, preferably in Transportation, Business or applicable field of study
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
- 3+ years of experience negotiating agreements
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders inside and outside the organization
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including intermediate or advanced level Excel

- Able to perform basic financial analyses (lease/buy, cash flow, etc.)
- Knowledge of SAP and Business Warehouse programs
- Knowledge of AFE process
- Knowledge of Business Law pertaining to Risk Management and Insurance requirements
