Position:
The Communications Assistant & Player Care Specialist is a part of the Sporting Department for Minnesota United FC (MNUFC), a sports business located in the Twins Cities area of Minnesota and a member of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top tier soccer league in North America.
Job Description:
The Communications Assistant & Player Care Specialist will assist Korean speaking player(s) and their families with the transition into the Twin Cities and establishing themselves within their new community. This individual will help facilitate all day-to-day administration as it relates to player care, player onboarding and family care. This role is vital to the transition and success of the player as it provides them full support to concentrate solely on their profession. This is a part-time position based in Blaine, MN.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interpret all activities for the player including in the training facility, locker room or on the field during pre-game, during the game, and post-game.
  • Transportation to all team related activities including daily training sessions, home games, away games, and commercial obligations.
  • Translate written word documents for the player as well as converting existing MNUFC documents from English to Korean.
  • Serve as the provider for or conduit to resources needed by Korean speaking player(s) including translating services, relocation planning, temporary and long-term housing, moving, and transportation; including but not limited to:
    • Assisting in lifestyle adjustments
    • Housing searches
    • Opening bank accounts
    • Obtaining social security cards
    • Cell phones, state ID, etc.
    • Securing flights, transportation, etc.
    • Securing hotel rooms
    • Assisting in lifestyle adjustments
  • Attend team sponsored events involving the Korean player(s).
  • Promote MNUFC Korean-speaking player(s) to international, national and local media outlets. Work with Public Relations (PR) department to fulfill media requests and the fulfillment of interviews, appearances, etc.
  • Provide counsel to MNUFC Korean players(s) related to the media and public relations opportunities.
  • Serve as a translator for the media, both pregame and postgame, for MNUFC Korean player(s).
  • Work with the Marketing department on development and translation of Korean language content.

Requirements:
  • Fluent in Korean and English with advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of general soccer knowledge and terminology associated with playing the game of soccer.
  • Prior employment with a professional or collegiate sports team including interacting with coaches and players, preferred.
  • Experience advising and interpreting for celebrities, athletes or others dealing with the media in pressurized and highly scrutinized environments preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel during regular season and potentially post-season road games.
