Initial Pay Range: $77,392+ (DOE)

Status: Full-Time


Position Summary:

The Compensation Specialist position provides Human Resources and compensation consulting services to clients. The client base is mostly external clients of Blue Stone Strategy Partners, although there are some internal projects and support, as well. The work involves consulting with clients on a variety of HR-related projects, however most work will be compensation projects.


Core Duties & Responsibilities:

The Compensation Specialist is involved in a variety of tasks in all areas of Blue Stone's business activities.

  • Develops, reviews, and modifies personnel policies and employee handbooks, ensuring that they are current and in compliance.
  • Develops and implements compensation structures and incentive compensation plans.
  • Trains client's HR and Finance employees on implementation of the compensation structure, as well as how to update it annually.
  • Evaluates and reviews HR department and staffing, as well as related HR processes, to ensure compliance.
  • Consults and assists clients on strategically integrating effective HR processes, programs, and practices into their daily operations.
  • Analyzes and recommends solutions to HR issues relating to HR functions, such as compensation, compliance, policy development, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, etc.
  • Researches and analyzes occupational data, and develops standardized positions descriptions that reflect the education, experience, job knowledge, and abilities needed to develop compensation structures.
  • Conducts evaluation and analysis for positions, both existing and new, to determine appropriate pay grades.
  • Conducts market pricing analysis and research to confirm pay grades for each position within an organization.
  • Provides analysis of cost impacts related to changes in in the salary structure.
  • Prepares compensation reports and provides recommendations in an Executive Summary, which summarizes compensation and trend information.
  • Performs advanced financial and employee-specific analysis.
  • Develops or suggests revisions to position descriptions to ensure that high-quality talent is recruited and can perform the duties of the role.
  • Conducts analysis and research into reclassification and classification of job positions based on the FLSA.
  • Develops methods and procedures for compiling and analyzing data for reports and special projects; identifies and recommends areas and processes for streamlining.
  • Advises client and hold one-on-one interviews with clients to provide accurate advice, synthesizes feedback into recommendations, and develops relationship with clients to become a trusted resource.
  • Attends meetings and conferences for professional development.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in technical areas such as FLSA, Total Rewards, incentive compensation, compensation analysis, HR-related regulations and laws;
  • Possess sensitivity to the unique culture of the clients we serve;
  • Ability to apply financial models and data to assess compensation practices;
  • Strong communication skills, but verbal and in writing with the ability to communicate in a professional, clear, and articulate manner;
  • Ability to design processes, work flows and procedures;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving;
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with clients, team members, and SMEs;
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner;
  • Strong project management experience and the ability to work on multiple projects with changing priorities;
  • Ability to communicate information effectively and in a way that is easily understood by those not familiar with industry terminology or concepts;
  • Courteous and tactful, exercising sound judgement with a high level of diplomacy;
  • Time management skills and the ability to work interpedently, to organize multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with limited supervision;
  • Strong client service skills, with the ability to respond promptly to customer inquiries and needs;
  • Demonstrated skills in developing presentation and/or proposals; strong public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Respect for Tribal governance and an understanding of Tribal government structures or a desire to learn the uniqueness of Tribal operations and communities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word processing applications, spreadsheet software, and Project Management software.
  • Proficiency in Google applications such as Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
  • Solid technical understanding and ability to define and refine requirements through a project lifecycle.
  • Employs strong analytical problem-solving skills to manage shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and also in a team setting, with the ability to self-manage time and ensure deadlines are met with efficiency and high quality.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and project management skills.
  • Excellent meeting, workshop, and conference facilitation skills, with proven knowledge of how to foster attendee participate and collaboration in a small and large group.
  • Skilled in writing and editing content with an attention to detail.
  • Project Management and Consulting experience-has demonstrated a track record of the ability to manage an intensive analytical client driven project from start to finish including management of multiple team members across multiple geographies.
  • Analytical reasoning ability- strong familiarity with financial analysis and/or budgeting; ability to solve qualitative and quantitative problems applicable to business and government issues.
  • Extensive experience working with Tribal governments, Tribal enterprises, Native American NGO's, Native publications, media or the desire to work with Tribal operations.


Education And Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in business-related field from an accredited College or University; at least 4 years of relevant work experience with in a professional consulting field or in a project management function; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SHRM, SPHR or THRP certification
