Concession Internal Auditor
(001823)As a Concession Internal Auditor you will plan and perform concession audits to provide the Audit Committee and the Executive Director reasonable assurance that contractual requirements are being followed and will be determining whether concession payments are complete and accurate.
- You will plan concession-based audit engagements of concessionaires operating at SEA Airport, Maritime departments, and various other locations and evaluate whether the contractual obligations are being followed.
- You will use computer-generated tools to assess the accuracy of concession “self-reported” revenues.
- You will conduct entrance/exit meetings with executive and senior management to communicate audit objectives and results.
- You will develop collaborative relationships with Port staff based on trust and respect.
- You will prepare and conduct substantive audit procedures to determine the accuracy and completeness of concession revenue reporting and prepare clear and concise audit reports.
- You will present the audit results to executive management and the Audit Committee, when requested.
- You will perform follow up procedures to determine adequacy of risk mitigation actions.
- You will participate in other Port related activities, such as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion projects, employee resource groups, Port training, and staff meetings.
Two years of experience may be substituted for one year of education:
- Experienced – You have one (1) year of general work experience.
- Educated – You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Desired – We hope you have a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification and two (2) years of experience in auditing.

- Knowledgeable – You have working knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS, Yellow Book), International Professional Practices Framework (Red Book), COSO internal control and Enterprise Risk Management frameworks, pertinent State of Washington RCWs and WACs, laws, and regulations applicable to Port districts and Port activities as well as total and complete understanding of the business and the related risks that pose an operational, financial, or business risk to the Port.
- Relationship Builder – You are capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with commissioners, executives, senior management, Port wide staff, and representatives from other governmental agencies without sacrificing independence and objectivity.
- Effective Communicator – You are able to distill information into a manageable form that provides the salient facts, avoiding miscommunication that can obscure important information and possess strong writing skills, to ensure clarity in written reports distilling complex audit results into language that is easily understood.
- Critical thinker – You are able to analyze information and make an objective judgment, evaluate the facts related to a matter, draw realistic conclusions that will help you make a decision and are able to produce a logical and reasonable conclusion.
- Ethical – You are a person of high integrity who will honor the values of the Port as well as act in the public’s best interest.
- Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
- Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
- Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
- Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
- Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
- Security Requirements – You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
