This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Cook 2 position at OSU-Cascades. This position will be located in Bend, OR.

The OSU-Cascades Dining Team exist to support the health and wellness of all students, faculty and staff by providing food and beverage choices that contribute to the collective well-being of our community. The OSU-Cascades campus is home to over 300 residential students that enjoy meals in our 250 seat dining center and coffee shop. Our dining center is a full-service food center offering made-from-scratch meals, grab-n-go selections, and catering services. We offer inspired cuisine and exceptional service to on-campus students, staff, faculty and external guest with a focus on local, sustainable ingredients and healthy food options.
The purpose of this position is support OSU-Cascades dining, catering and conference operations receive a high quality, nutritious and satisfying meal. This position has responsibility for preparing and producing the food production for a designated area, preparing foods for special diets, maintaining adequate product, and training students and staff on cooking methods and procedures. This is done by providing leadership and role modeling on how to maintain high quality food and how to prepare menu items using solid fundamental cooking methods with a focus on safety and sanitation.

Position Duties
Cooking and Coordination (50%)
Prepare food items following all safe food handling procedures.
Follow recipes and standards for food production and presentation on the serving line.
Responsible for appearance, flavor and overall quality of menu items served.
Preform prep work including washing, peeling, cutting, weighing, and measuring to assist in preparation of menu items or grab-n-go selections.
Instruct student workers as necessary in procedures for food preparation and ensuring they are following safe and sanitary practices.
Support catering services as needed for serving internal and external guests.

Customer Service (20%)
Create an exceptional overall experience for customers by providing friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
Resolve customer concerns and relay information to supervisor.

Recordkeeping (10%)
Maintain records pertaining to items such as temperature logs, recipe changes, daily cleaning logs, inventory and other items needs for business purposes.

Inventory and Supply (10%)
Ensure that serving stations remain well stocked to accommodate customer demand.
Request additional supplies when needed to maintain appropriate levels for business need.
Assist when needed with scheduled inventory counts.

Other (10%)
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications

Two years of cooking experience in an institution or commercial firm serving complete meals; OR an Associate’s degree in Food Service Management, Foods and Hospitality Service, or a directly-related field.

Additional Required Qualifications
Knowledge of large quantity food preparation.
Experience in safe and sanitary methods for food and beverage preparing, handling, and storage.
Experience working with kitchen equipment including, but not limited to: grills, fryers, knives, slicing machines, mixers, ovens and steam kettles.
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and stay organized.
Demonstrated passion for food and the food service industry.
Ability to respond positively to changing work demands as well as the ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals.
Professional oral and non-verbal communication skills.
Requires a valid Food Handler’s certificate within 30 days of employment. Must maintain certification throughout service with OSU-Cascades.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
This position is required to maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification (if cognitively and physically able to do so) within 90 days of employment of when training becomes available by the department. Training is provided at department expense. Duty to act end at summoning professional emergency assistance.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the Criminal History Check Requirement.

Demonstrable ability to work with and/or lead diverse groups of employees.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
OSU Cascades is a seven-day-a-week operation, so weekends, evenings, and occasional holiday work will be required. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs.
The employee in this position will often be required to lift/carry/push/push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
This position is deemed essential and the incumbent is expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.
This is a physically active job in an institutional kitchen environment. Incumbent will experience long working periods of standing on a hard floor; working with commercial kitchen equipment; fluctuation in work flow, temperature and noise level.
