Department: Dining Services

Reports To: Executive Chef

Are you service-oriented, goal driven, and passionate about working with seniors?

Newbridge Retirement Community is seeking a customer service- oriented leader to join our team as full-time Cook. This individual will represent Newbridge to the residents, their guests, families and the community in a professional and positive manner.

As the Cook, you will be responsible for providing full-scope, hands on production cooking in the community food and beverage program and maintaining a superior level of quality, service and cleanliness at all times. Additionally, the Cook will exhibit leadership and management standards with all kitchen and dining room staff.

I. Job Responsibilities

  • Exemplify at all times company standards of cleanliness, sanitation and operational organization.
  • Exhibit leadership and management standards with all wait/server buss/utility staff.
  • Adhere to food quality, appearance, and presentation standards at all times.
  • Ensure company standards for a full staffed, operational, and stocked dining room.
  • Exhibit cooking standards of speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Knowledge in all areas of serving, preparation, and shift organization.
  • Maintain high standards of display of food.
  • Work with FOH staff to properly describe menus and specials.
  • May assist in performance of other duties as assigned to, but not necessarily limited to, dishwashing including the proper washing, sanitation, and maintenance for food service-related equipment.

II. Qualifications/Skills:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in food handling, preparation, cooking, service, and operation of all kitchen equipment
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication
  • Passion for working with older adults
  • Familiarity with local health department, OSHA, and other local and state health and sanitation and safety codes and regulations
  • Knowledge of preparation and line production communication to other line/prep/dish person/management staff.
  • Ability to work well with others, communicate clearly and take direction from management
  • Ability to take initiative and go above and beyond to meet resident needs
  • Computer proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite as well as the ability to learn new applications
  • Ability to meet all physical demands of the position which includes, but is not limited to, seeing, speaking, touching, walking, standing, bending, reaching overhead, crouching/kneeling or crawling, as well as the ability to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs independently and up to 100lbs with assistance
  • Flexibility and the ability to work weekends, as needed
  • Familiarity with local and state health and sanitation and safety codes and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Knowledge of principle and practices of supervision

III Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year restaurant/senior living or equivalent cooking experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent in education, training and experience preferred
