This position provides legal advice to H&R Block, Inc. and its subsidiaries on a variety of legal issues.
Day to day, you'll...
- Provide legal support and advice across a diverse range of legal matters, as needed, including, but not limited to:
- Researching, analyzing, and monitoring evolving laws that may impact the Company’s operations and strategic initiatives on a broad range of topics, and assisting with related risk mitigation and compliance efforts.
- Drafting and negotiating various vendor and partner agreements, including those relating to sourcing, financial products and services, technology licenses, and professional services agreements.
- Assisting with various litigation and arbitration matters, along with associated dispute resolution processes.
- Assisting in evaluating and responding to governmental or regulatory inquiries, and responding to various subpoenas, document requests, complaints, or disputes.
- Achieving legal objectives by gathering pertinent information, identifying and evaluating options, and choosing a course of action.
- Researching, analyzing, and providing advice to business units related to ongoing business operations, including tax return preparation and new and existing tax and financial products and services.
- Assisting with product disclosures and agreements, online terms, marketing, client notifications including email and texts, servicing, and operations.
- Assisting with purchase transaction due diligence efforts, advising on legal issues that arise during transactions, negotiating purchase agreements and related transaction documents with counterparties and their legal counsel, and participating in post-closing integration activities and disputes.
- Managing outside counsel to achieve timely and desired results within budget.
- Work closely with Legal Department attorneys and business clients to provide legal support on a variety of initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Some domestic travel may be required.
What you'll bring to the team...
- At least one to three years of experience in the practice of law.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects and work initiatives at the same time.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong presentation skills necessary to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Experience dealing with clients and external constituencies.
- Ability to spot issues and recommend effective solutions.
- Strong business acumen and an eagerness to partner with internal business colleagues to solve business issues.
- A positive attitude, a collegial approach to client interaction, and an instinct to go “above and beyond” in order to achieve the optimal outcome for the Company.
- Experience providing legal advice relating to consumer protection, financial technology, banking, and/or payment systems is a plus.
