Job description
Under general direction, this position exists to assist the City Secretary in the daily legal operations of the Municipal Court department. Works very closely with the Prosecutor and Municipal Court Judges in all processes of the Court. Performs administrative duties of the City Secretary in his/her absence.
Under direct supervision of the City Secretary, performs clerical and administrative functions necessary to support the Municipal Court, requiring knowledge of Municipal Court procedures and traffic laws. Provides support for the Municipal Court Judge and Municipal Court Prosecutor in their functions of administering justice. Performs other secretarial tasks to assist in the support of the court and City Secretary.
Has extensive public contact requiring judgment, initiative, discretion, and tact. Ability to oversee multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have effective communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, and deal with conflict. Must have cash-handling experience.
Preference will be given to a candidate that has experience with Municipal Court procedures and enCode software. Spanish language skills are a plus.
Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or a GED
- Must obtain the Municipal Court Clerk Certification, Level I within 12 months of hire date.

Reading:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions such as laws and Ordinances.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical reports, manuals, correspondence and memos, office communications, legal opinions, policies, and procedures.
Writing:
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
- Math: Operation of calculator and computer.
Reasoning:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct instructions.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables.
- Ability to discern when other parties need to be involved in validating priorities.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Speaking: Effective verbal communication skills are required.
Managerial: Ability to maintain recordkeeping systems.
Interpersonal: Interact with staff, the public, Mayor, City Council, Judge, Prosecutor, and police officers. Clear verbal communication is required.
Other Job Skills. Skill in the use of computers and computer networks. Any other functions deemed necessary by management.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
