CULINARY ARTS ASSISTANT, Classification I – HIGH SCHOOL
7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Job Goal: To assist the teacher in reaching/obtaining student achievement goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma required
- Preferred Associates’ Degree or Bachelor’s Degree
- Certification of good health, as required
- Successful completion of all applicable tests
- Two years of experience working with children
- Experience to the food industry, preferred
- Demonstrated ability to have and demonstrate strong communication, organization skills, public relations, maintain records, strong math/accounting knowledge, and confidentiality,
- Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or his/her designee may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports to: Classroom Teacher/Building Principal
Responsibilities & Duties Include, but not limited to:
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Assist with large group activities/instruction.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and field trips.
- Positively interact with students/staff/community and participate in other forms of oral/written communication with them.
- Guide independent students, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
- Help students with their uniforms; assist with lunch preparation/service, and clean-up routine.
- Alert the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Serve as substitute teacher in the absence of regular teacher, if minimum requirements are met for a substitute permit.
- Oversee the daily operations for the South Lake Bistro. This will be established by the Culinary Arts teacher and revised when and if needed.
- Responsible for culinary purchases of classroom and Bistro supplies.
- Responsible for the accounting, record keeping, reconciliation, and deposit of collected cash and charged sales.
- Servsafe manager certification required, and Allergen certification required. Be registered as a Servsafe proctor.
- Computer knowledge is required. Person in this position MUST maintain the restaurant’s Weebly ( http://www.southlakebistro.weebly.com ) and South Lake Bistro Facebook page, South Lake Bistro. This will require the person to have a Facebook account. Maintenance includes but is not limited to updating menu, news items, hours, and photos. A person must compose informational items pertaining to any classroom and/or restaurant pictures and/or notices posted on the Facebook page/Weebly. The person must also compose emails to staff as well as the public. Emails may pertain to the restaurant, menu, Weebly, among other requests.
- Ability to track a budget, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Professional dress and hygiene are required. The person in this position will be dealing with the public in a licensed restaurant. Casual attire/jeans are not permitted unless the administration is offering casual attire day to all staff. Nonslip/nonskid shoes are necessary to help prevent falling due to slipping.
- A vehicle is required. Sometimes the restaurant runs low on items necessary for operation. When this occurs, the person in this position may/will be required to run to local Kroger to pick up items and pay for purchases with SLHS’s Kroger card (Chef will provide to you).
- Ability to learn Square system and/or other P.O.S. system. Teach students same as well as balance and maintain cash drawer when restaurant is open and/or closed.
- Ability to cultivate/nurture public relations through emails, events, meet and greets, and/or other opportunities as they arise.
- Ability to carry uniforms and aprons from classroom to laundry room each week to launder same.
- Ability to sort and organize laundry after washing and/or whenever necessary.
- Ability to concurrently move throughout a variety of areas monitoring students. Areas include the restaurant, classroom, and/or kitchen.
- Ability to attend/participate in after school and/or evening events such as the following: school events where Culinary might serve food such as the Festival of Arts, Arts Beats & Eats, eighth grade visit, and/or other community/school events planned in the future. You should put attendance at events where your presence is requested by the Chef on your timesheet.
- Flexibility in the schedule is required.
- First aid/AED/CPR certification is required.
- Participate in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by Classroom Teacher/Principal.
