Radiance Technologies, a rapidly growing employee-owned company is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team in Suitland, MD at the National Maritime Intelligence Center (NMIC). This employee will provide full-time Data Scientist support at the NMIC.
ONI is focused on providing critical intelligence and environmental knowledge to the intel community and warfighting disciplines of Anti-Submarine Warfare; Naval Special Warfare; Mine Warfare; Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance; and Fleet Operations (Strike and Expeditionary), as well as to the support areas of Maritime Operations, Aviation Operations, Navigation, Precise Time, and Astrometry. In this capacity, it is the steward of a vast repository of data covering sea floor to space and spanning over a century.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable expertise in data structures, data modeling, and data analysis. The candidate will have a strong technical background and be capable of effective communication across multiple stakeholders with differing requirements. The ideal candidate will have some experience with system engineering principals.
Job Duties:
  • Support ONI project initiatives by applying and utilizing new or established qualitative methods to analyze and resolve analytical issues.
  • Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data as well as collaborate with respective government points of contact (POC) to perform exploratory and targeted data analyses; test working hypotheses; prepare, mine, and analyze structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data; and identify trends and patterns
  • Design and develop new, scalable tools, dashboards, and visualizations to enable users to consume and understand data more effectively and efficiently
  • Identify data needs and proper methods for data gathering, extraction, integration, preparation, quality and governance from internal and external sources in context of meeting customer expectations
  • Employ a variety of programming languages, analytic techniques, and tools to develop statistical algorithms and models, automate data conditioning and data analysis, support machine learning, and generate visualizations for use in predictive and prescriptive modeling and proof of concept initiatives.
  • Create positive customer relationships to gather input and feedback for addressing analytical issues and advance reporting needs
  • Deliver and communicate status and results through report, presentations, and other means as designated by government POCs
  • Collaborate with other analytic professionals to continuously build a broader and deeper data science and analytics capability relevant to N3 initiatives, ONI, and subordinate commands’ mission areas
  • Accompany ONI personnel as needed to community GEOINT related conferences and meetings to gain insight and understanding of the latest military and civil sector GEOINT techniques and technologies under development.
  • As required travel to ashore and afloat naval joint service commands, GEOINT-related trade shows and conferences to become familiar with special projects, exercises, and analytic methods.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in IE Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, Physical Science or another relevant technical field.
  • 3 years practical work experience integrating data mining, conditioning, and analysis using two or more of the following: ESRI ArcGIS, MATLAB, SAS, SPSS Statistics, and/or Hive/Hadoop
  • 3 years practical work experience in computer programming using Python, JavaScript, Interactive Data Language (IDL), R, and/or C++
  • 1 year work experience with geospatial data and/or imagery data
  • 1 year practical work experience with database management systems, utilizing one or more of the following tools: GeoDB, SQL, MS Access, MS Excel
  • 2 years writing technical analysis reports
