Robert Half is looking for a Database Administrator who loves the challenge of solving problems with multiple layers of complexity. This position would be a great fit for an efficient problem solver with fine-tuned decision-making skills. The opening for a long-term contract / temporary Database Administrator is available in Bellwood, Illinois.

What you get to do every single day

• Configure database monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms
• Verify that SLA objectives for database server topology, configuration, and maintenance are met in design and execution
• Install, configure, and maintain all relational database instances across development, staging, and production environments
• Suggest solutions for database design, tuning options, and other potential issues
• Find the most effective solution for increasing performance, including purchasing hardware and making changes to the server configuration or index/query
• Establish the baseline for system performance and detect deviation, suggesting and executing improvements to slow running queries
• Restore databases as service outages occur, including after hours and weekends
• 4+ years of database experience
• Experience building and maintaining documentation
• Working knowledge of storage and server hardware required
• Microsoft SQL Server Database experience
• Database Migration experience highly desired
• UNIX experience
• Progress experience preferred
• Previous experience in production environments and being on-call
• Solid grasp of relational database management systems
• Experience tuning queries to improve performance
