The Town of Barnstable (population 45,000) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Deputy Director of Asset Management. This position supports the Director of Asset Management in the operation and oversight of various Risk Management, Property, and Energy related activities.. The position is responsible for performing professional and administrative work managing the activities of all Licensing programs within operation, including information, research, project administration, inspection and technical work in enforcing provisions of statutes, local ordinances, rules and regulations relating to Licensing Regulations and policies.

Applicants must have thorough knowledge of state statutes and regulations governing operations of Licensing. They should also demonstrate a familiarity and understanding of Risk Management and Insurance operations, Property Management, or Energy contracting. The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills. The work requires handling various situations and regular contact with individuals within and outside town government, including appointed and elected officials, attorneys, business owners and citizens, and must use considerable tact, discretion and understanding of the workings of municipal operations and code compliance. Directly manages subordinates in key activities that occur on Town property including, Special Events and the Heritage program involving Town memorials and monuments.

Bachelor’s Degree in business management, public administration, or related field desired; and over 7 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in Licensing, Risk Management, Procurement; experience with licensing applications, regulations and policies or a related field; experience in project management, permitting, contracting; Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position will be considered. Qualified candidates must demonstrate knowledge of local government processes, and must possess a strong and moral character, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be personable, open, honest, inclusive, and transparent. The team oriented work environment requires quick thinking, problem solving, excellent communication and customer service and a strong desire to serve the public.

The Town of Barnstable is located in the mid-cape area of Cape Cod and is approximately 60 miles south of the City of Boston. Due to its unique location it is the regional commercial and transportation hub for the Cape Cod area. Ferry service for the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are provided by the Steamship Authority from the village of Hyannis and the Cape Cod Gateway Airport is the third largest and busiest airport in Massachusetts. The position also offers the opportunity to be part of a hybrid work team that works remotely part of the week.
