SUMMARY: Design Engineers develop or redesign new or existing company products. Individuals in this position work from order requirements or other specifications and arrive at final design details utilizing CAD software and engineering calculations as required. Design Engineers are capable of working independently and may be assigned responsibility for a customer order as a Lead Engineer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Design company products using SolidWorks or other engineering software
- Create engineering drawings for use in proposals and manufacturing
- Create bills of material and routings for use in cost estimates and manufacturing
- Create owner’s manuals, test procedures, and other engineering deliverables as required
- Perform engineering computations for sizing equipment components
- Provide technical support to shop personnel during manufacturing
- Provide field support of Company products as required
- Perform Lead Engineer role for assigned sales orders including customer interaction, vendor communication, and project management as required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no direct supervisory responsibility although individuals in this position may be required to provide direction to CAD Designers who are supporting the assigned work.

- Knowledgeable about one or more company products
- Proficient with SolidWorks CAD software
- Ability to provide leadership as is required to perform Lead Engineer role
- Ability to perform fundamental engineering calculations employing software or by hand
- Ability to team with other engineering, sales and production personnel to meet customers’ needs
- Experience in Parcel/Distribution/E-Commerce conveyor system and equipment design is preferred
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor Degree and 1 year experience or Associate Degree in engineering field and (4) year’s relative experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings / electrical schematics.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Proficient in algebra and geometry as is required to solve engineering problems.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
SolidWorks experience in detailing and designing preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. Employee spends some time on shop floor. The majority of the time will be spent sitting in front of a computer and use of the phone.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most of the time, the work environment is a pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. Personal workstation maybe located on 2nd floor. The employee works in the office but does have frequent interaction with personnel on the shop floor. The employee may also be required to travel occasionally to work in customers’ plants reviewing new applications or on the installation, start-up and commissioning of company products. In plants, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed but does not require hearing protection in most areas.
