Nature of Work:
This is a technical position, which is responsible for facility maintenance and operations within Village parks. This includes patrolling and monitoring park activities, enforcing rules and regulations, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facilities.

Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties:

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs to include plumbing, electrical, painting, and mechanical (e.g. replace light bulbs, repair fixtures, snake drains, and replace defective switches or fuses). Possess enough general knowledge to recognize and resolve any emergency situation, with regard to maintenance (e.g. electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.).
  • Handle maintenance responsibilities within the facility housekeeping area. This includes cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing restrooms; sweeping and vacuuming floors and carpets; mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and cleaning carpets and floors; emptying trash cans and waste bins; cleaning and dusting office furniture, walls, and windows.
  • Handle maintenance responsibilities within the grounds area of the park property. This includes operating and maintaining equipment or power tools such as blowers and pressure washers. Pick up trash and sweep the walk areas and entrances facilities as needed.
  • Monitor all park activities and enforce Village rules and regulations by taking actions including counseling and issuing warnings. Report criminal activity and/or vandalism to the Bal Harbour Police Department.
  • Assist and monitors and controls supplies and equipment; order supplies and tools as necessary.
  • Practices preventative maintenance and safety inspection programs for the facilities and equipment. Performs daily inspections of facilities/grounds and property for cleanliness or maintenance issues, and addresses them as needed.
  • Assists with coordinating contractors in providing contract services. Monitors and inspects their work, and provides input into performance.
  • Provides information and assistance to the public regarding Village services, programs, and special interest areas/facilities.
  • Provide basic first aid and CPR and emergency management for park incidents.
  • Maintains work logs and prepares written reports of incidents, accidents, maintenance issues, or other occurrences.
  • Assists with departmental special events and programs/activities, including set up and break down of chairs, tables, tents, decorations, and supplies as needed.
  • Uses due care in the use of hand tools and equipment and a variety of machines safely and efficiently to assist with repair tasks or general maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain Village vehicles as assigned including washing, waxing, and preventative maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the materials and methods used in facility and grounds maintenance and custodial operations, including specialized cleaning agents and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Village employees and the public.
  • Ability to work a varying schedule of hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to operate Village vehicles, power tools, and equipment (including a radio), safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to learn the maintenance operation, policy, and procedures of the Village and the assigned department or office.
  • Some knowledge of computers and mobile devices (for information tracking and reporting).

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED required.
  • One (1) year of related experience performing similar duties.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Florida driver’s license is required.
  • Customer Service training is preferred.
  • American Red Cross CPR AND First Aid Certification is required and must be obtained within 90 days of the date of hire.
  • Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification is required within 6 months of hire.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement preferred.
  • All required certifications and licenses must be maintained after appointment.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, see, speak, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, or other electronic devices.
  • Regularly required to walk. See, hear, and speak with the public; read presented documents, write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means.
  • On occasion, required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, taste, or smell. Intermittently twist and reach; lift or carry weight regularly of 10 pounds and on occasion weight of up to 40 pounds.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Moderate noise (business office with computers, telephones, printers, fax machines, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and light traffic).
  • Ability to work at a computer station for an extended period.
  • Ability to work outdoors.
  • Ability to walk through the facility for inspections to check various areas and address corrections that can be made under their purview.

Supervision Received:

  • General Supervision and specific assignments are typically received from and reviewed by the Facility Manager.
  • Duties are performed with limited independence requiring the exercise of discretion, sound judgment, and initiative.
  • Work is reviewed for compliance with generally accepted operational practices, established departmental policies and standards, and through conversation, observation, analysis of reports, recommendations, and results achieved.
