Job description

You’ll help us direct, develop, implement, monitor, evaluate and promote Windermere Preparatory School’s Fine Arts programs. (Music, Art, Theatre, Dance, and Media Arts)


You will work collaboratively with the administrative and instructional staff and communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other Nord Anglia Education schools.

Your role will impact the organization by leading a vibrant arts program that fosters broad dispositions and skills, especially creative thinking, connection making, artistic achievement, and a sensitive aesthetic awareness that helps our artists advance as innovative thinkers, capable of viewing their world in new and insightful ways.


Promotes

  • Promotes the Fine Arts program for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and encouraging student development.


Internal Communication

  • Communicates with the administrative staff regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation of Fine Arts programs and services.
  • Participates in meetings and serves on committees that involve a range of issues related to Fine Arts for the purpose of conveying and gathering information; evaluating topics/materials, identifying appropriate actions, and/or developing recommendations.
  • Conducts meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of Fine Arts instructional programs. Keeping the staff informed about current educational research, technology, and materials for the improvement of instruction.
  • Represents the school at community, State, and professional meetings.


Parent/Student Communication

  • Proactively communicates with and responds to inquiries of students, parents, faculty, staff, community representatives, etc. for the purpose of providing information, assistance, and/or direction regarding the program and student activities.


LEARNING AND TEACHING


Curriculum

  • Collaborates with a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. Head of School, Principals, Team Leaders, fine arts staff, professional colleagues, etc.) to develop curriculum/course modifications, implement and maintain services and/or programs.
  • Develops, implements, supervises, and evaluates curriculum and instructional practices that ensure that each student meets and exceeds content standards, consistent with the mission, vision, values, and instructional goals of the school and department.
  • Provides educational leadership and coordination in the development of curriculum and the implementation of instructional programs, including the evaluation of classroom instruction on a regular basis to encourage differentiated instruction and the use of various strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  • Ensures that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, that they address each student’s needs, interests, and skill levels, that they encourage the student to define individual goals and accept responsibility for learning, and that they provide a variety of methods for the student to demonstrate performance and achievement.


Evaluation

  • Monitors Fine Arts services (e.g. evaluating programs, reviewing staff) for the purpose of ensuring that performance outcomes are achieved within department and school objectives.
  • Observes classroom instruction to evaluate curriculum implementation (content, materials, pedagogy, pace, and standards), student performance, and program effectiveness.
  • Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  • Ensures that personnel evaluation procedures are accomplished fairly and consistently encouraging accountability, growth, and excellence, in accordance with WPS and NAE Professional Teaching Standards.


PLANNING AND PREPARATION


Strategic Planning

  • Develops long and short-range plans (e.g. identifying school-specific support needs; outlining Fine Arts programs; integrating adopted curriculum; staffing, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that objectives are realized.
  • Monitor the entire Fine Arts budget and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that expenses remain within budget limits and that prudent fiscal practices are executed in each area
  • Recommends policies and procedures to promote a positive learning environment to facilitate effective classroom instruction and successful student performance.


PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT


Professional Development

  • Summarises, interprets, and disseminates current developments in instruction, learning theory, and cognitive research through the reading of professional journals, participation in professional development, and involvement in professional organisations.
  • Researches a variety of topics (e.g. new visual arts and performing arts programs, professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs that meet staff training needs.
  • Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.

Provides orientation for new staff and ongoing opportunities for effective professional development that address the needs of the individual and the instructional program, including workshops, visitations, demonstration lessons, and team teaching in which the staff shares successful practices and strategies.


OTHER


Administration/Operation

  • Performs departmental administrative functions (e.g. hiring, counselling, training, supervising, evaluating, monitoring the budget, developing procedures, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing the productivity of staff, and ensuring that necessary outcomes are achieved.
  • Works cooperatively and collectively with directors, principals, department chairpersons, and teachers to ensure that instructional programs and services are coordinated and are administered uniformly and equitably.
  • Recommends staffing needs and assists in the recruitment and selection of new personnel.
  • Coordinates program components, support needs, and materials for the purpose of meeting school and/or department objectives.
  • Monitors instructional areas to ensure that the facilities support instruction and are attractive, organized, functional, clean, and safe, with proper attention to the visual and acoustic environments.
  • Monitor Fine Arts program budget and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that expenses and revenue are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
  • Recommends budget line items and coordinates the purchasing of instructional materials and equipment within Fine Arts programs.


Reporting/ Records

  • Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. plans, budgets, funding requests, reports, analyses, recommendations, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, making presentations, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.
  • Maintains a variety of detailed records (e.g. equipment and supply inventory; evaluation documents and measures, correspondence, memos, etc.) for the purpose of meeting program reporting requirements.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


  • Have at least five (5) years of successful teaching/administrative experience with an arts focus within a private school setting
  • A valid state teacher’s certificate in arts education preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or equivalent is required.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in visual, media, or performing arts is highly desirable.
  • Good cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Excellent analytical skills – with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success.
  • Results orientated with the ability to map efforts against identified KPIs consistently.
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks.
