DIRECTOR OF PRODUCTION, THEATER ARTS, Music and Theater Arts Section, to ensure the smooth realization of all production aspects of Theater Arts events, including faculty-led performances, student productions, workshops, readings, lectures, exhibitions, and creative residencies. Will create budgets, calendars, and staffing plans and collaborate on meeting project targets/goals while maintaining a reasonable working schedule; identify and recruit additional staff (e.g., stage managers, carpenters, electricians, wardrobe support, media artists, programmers) as needed; participate in the engineering, planning, and execution of designs and submit designs to shops/rental houses to solicit bids, and manage fabrication or rentals to meet set, costume, lighting, sound, and projection needs; schedule and facilitate design and production meetings; serve as the environmental health and safety representative; strengthen collaborations within Theater Arts through clear, effective communication; train, coordinate, and supervise students working in the production areas; provide organization, expertise, and leadership in coordinating all technical aspects of productions; and take a leadership role in managing day-to-day equipment and theater facility operations.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; three years’ related experience; history of successful collaborations in a broad range of performance idioms; experience working in a higher education environment and/or training experience in alternative settings; conversant in technical production, including new media and openness to emergent approaches to performance; fluency with industry-standard safety practices regarding shop, rehearsal, and performance facilities; and excellent communication skills. Must be able to manage and organize the production needs of various types of performance events; anticipate project needs and arrange for necessary materials, equipment, personnel, and approvals; realize ambitious projects while effectively managing available resources; and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment while also focusing on long-term goals.
