The Director of Risk Management is responsible for the coordination related to property, general liability, professional liability and other insurance coverage's for the Hospital.

Duties/Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates activities with insurance carriers and assist with management of resolution of suits/claims.
  • Oversees activities involving incident investigation and evaluation of claims or potential claims, property loss, risk identification analysis, and data analysis.
  • Responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Risk Management Department which include but are not limited to:
  • Providing support to the clinical staff in questions regarding Risk Management; identifying, investigating and if necessary reporting incidents to the appropriate regulatory agencies (NYPORTS, FDA, Medwatch, CMS);
  • Coordinating in developing and implementing educational programs to the clinical staff.
  • Oversees in the investigation and reporting of all RCA’s.
  • Oversee and maintain the High Reliability Patient Safety program for Mercy Hospital, which will include risk identification, assignment of SSEs/PSE and NMEs codes, loss prevention and loss reduction.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of Hospitals’ policies, procedures and systems for protecting the privacy of health information.
  • Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities.
  • Establishes methods for identifying and adjudicating all privacy complaints received by the organization and submits HIPPA reports as needed.
  • Serves as IT Security Officer, reviewing all system-related information security plans and acting as a liaison to the information systems department and Senior Management on all information security issues.
  • Serves as information privacy consultant for all departments.
  • Identifies Business Associates of the hospital and participates in the development and implementation of Business Associate Agreements to ensure conformance with hospital policies and applicable law.
  • Provides privacy training to hospital employees and members of the medical staff and any individual or outside entity as deemed necessary.

Education/Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with BSN required, Master's Degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical Nursing, with progressive administrative responsibilities/Risk Management experience required.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Must have exemplary communication skills, high level of professionalism and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficient in MIDAS and Cactus.
