Position Overview:


To assist with patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. To provide direct/indirect patient care in the Emergency Department. Will assist in meeting the communicated needs of patient/family and will communicate these needs to departmental staff and medical staff. Actions are to be implemented at the direction of the Emergency Department Physician or Nursing staff.


Essential Functions
:


a) The Emergency Department Paramedic Tech responsibilities shall include performing EKG"s, applying Splints and Splinting devices, performing Wound Care and Dressings, Blood Draws, Transporting Patients to other departments in the hospital, Transporting patients upon discharge to the lobby, assist with CPR in Code Blue situations, perform and record Vital signs, review Crutch Walking with patients. Other duties may be performed as per policy and scope of practice.


b) Shall be cross trained in Meditech and T-system for order entry and order confirmation.


Physical Demands and Working Conditions:


Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity.


Qualifications & Skills:

a) Education: High School graduate or equivalent with one (1) year experience in acute Hospital setting or in ambulance.


b) Training & Experience: BLS required on hire. ACLS and PALS (or ENPC/PEPP) strongly preferred. Current EMB B with IV skills EMT I or Paramedic or LPN license required. Basic arrhythmia course recommended. Pediatric resuscitation and care training by AHA or other agencies is recommended but not required. Training provided to Paramedic/Tech by an EMS agency that they are employed with as part of their requirements will be accepted as appropriate Pediatric Training. LPNs will be required to have PALS within 1 year of hire.
