Job description
Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with federal, state and local safety laws, regulations, codes and rules in accordance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), DNR (Department of Natural Resources), and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Provides guidance on handling OSHA compliance, inspections and citations
- Develops, implements, and improves environmental, health and safety programs based on regulations, corporate standards, and best practices for location
- Ensures timely incident investigation and implementation of corrective action activities
- Investigates all injuries/significant near misses and provides prompt notification to executive leadership
- Manages workers compensations and claims management, including coordinating return to work activities and claim resolution
- Implements systems for the monitoring of workplace safety risks and environmental impact through six sigma analysis of processes, materials, equipment and the work habits of employees
- Manages sustainability efforts to minimize hazardous/non-hazardous waste, air emissions, water/energy consumption, and other related environmental compliance activities
- Manages compliance with government regulations, permitting, training, reporting, and corporate policies/procedures for assigned location(s)
- Trains employees and management in safe practices including: Hazardous Communications, bloodborne pathogens, first responder training, respirator use, lock-out/tag-out, PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) operation, fire protection, and safe lifting
- Coordinates with outside vendors/contractors when needed
- Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field with 2+ years of experience
- Safety leadership experience in a manufacturing setting
- Travel required (10%)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Strong verbal and written skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
- Proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheet applications required (MS Word and Excel preferred)
