Electrical Engineer – Spokane, WA
Spees Design-Build (SDB) is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer to join our team in Spokane, WA.
SDB is an award-winning design-build firm that specializes in providing architecture, engineering, and project management consulting services. We work in teams, tackle exciting projects, and enjoy a stimulating and collegial environment. We are a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business with offices in the Pacific Northwest and in the Southeast.
The Electrical Engineer will be part of the dynamic A/E Design team within SDB’s Design-Bid-Build operations. This team is primarily involved in the design for various project types within the Veterans Affairs Medical Center systems throughout the western part of the United States. The position collaborates with all other design discipline staff and will help build the team’s electrical engineering department.
Job Qualifications
- You will need a bachelor’s degree in the electrical engineering field to be considered. The degree must come from a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- 10+ years of previous experience within the AEC industry at a consulting engineering or A/E firm.
- Experience working with federal projects is preferred.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience working with federal projects is preferred.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Candidates must have a solid understanding of electrical system designs and commercial systems with applications in a variety of projects including but not limited to health care, higher education, data centers, mission-critical, and central utility plant experience.

- Fundamental Project Management
- Candidates must have a solid understanding of the following systems including but not limited to:
- Power Systems:
- Medium and low-voltage electrical power systems.
- Essential electrical systems and standby power systems.
- UPS electrical power systems.
- Voltage drop and short-circuit analysis.
- Over-current protective device coordination studies and arc-flash studies.
- Grounding design.
- Lighting Systems:
- Luminaire and lighting control layout and equipment selection.
- Photometrics.
- Familiar with industry energy code requirements.
- Low-Voltage Special Systems:
- Telecommunications data design.
- Fire alarm systems.
- Security access and surveillance systems.
- Nurse call systems.
- BMS and DDC systems
- Lighting and lighting control systems,
- Candidates should be experienced and/or familiar with applications in a variety of projects including but not limited to health care, higher education, data centers, mission-critical, industrial facilities, and central utility plant experience.
- Project Management:
- Responsible for the communication necessary with all parties to ensure a successful project.
- Responsible for direct and regular interaction with the Client.
- Have a solid understanding of the scope of the work to be performed.
- Coordination and management of the team and any others involved in the project.
- Ensure the team has the necessary tools and receives regular and timely information to produce a successful project.
- The main point of contact for the project.
- Responsible for delivering a completed project that satisfies the client.
- Proven leadership experience and managerial experience are a must.
- Knowledge and experience with software such as AutoCAD, REVIT, and power analysis software (ETAP, Easypower, SKM, etc.) to perform complex calculations, proficiency in Building and Electrical Codes and Standards.
- Superior client-facing/client relationship/client management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience using MS Office software family products.
- Lead assigned project teams as they perform their tasks and participation in budgeting, scheduling, and staff management.
- Participate in activities and organizations related to our industry outside of daily business routine, developing peer relationships, technical growth, and business contacts.
Essential Functions:
- Sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Frequent travel to various VAMC sites for field investigation and construction inspection.
