Duties Include:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic systems, equipment, and components on all plant production machinery and equipment, following electrical code, technical manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications.
  • Observe electrical and electronic equipment in operation to locate causes of trouble and develop plan for repairs.
  • Test malfunctioning or improperly operating components or equipment and facilitate required adjustments or repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electrical components like relays, switches, motors, and position sensing devices.
  • Operate programmable controllers to program and operate automated machinery, test for malfunctions, and verify repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair faulty hydraulic, and pneumatic components on machinery equipment.
  • Perform all routine electrical preventative and predictive maintenance duties on all associated mill equipment.
  • Communicate directly and professionally with operators about how equipment is running to learn about any problems.
  • Submit work requests, and fill out completed work orders to include actions taken, parts used, and man hours consumed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of theory and concepts of electricity including a thorough understanding of Ohms law
  • Basic comprehension and troubleshooting skills of motor and motor controls
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for electronic and electrical equipment
  • Thorough understanding of electrical and electronic schematics
  • Basic PLC programming and hardware troubleshooting skills
  • Thorough understanding of all electrical power and hand tools
  • Ability to correctly operate conduit threading and bending equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of machine alignment and calibration
  • Basic understanding and familiarity with NEC code book
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Correctly fill out work records and performance sheets
  • Adherence to Westervelt Lumber’s policies regarding safety and operations
  • Basic software and hardware computer skills
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Formal electrical training or 2-year Technical College degree in electronics/industrial electricity
  • Sawmill maintenance, strong electrical and mechanical experience preferred
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to perform well in a team environment
  • Must be able to read and understand written instructions, manuals and diagrams in order to perform duties and follow lockout procedures
  • Must have good troubleshooting techniques and knowledge of equipment
  • Must be able to perform simple math in order to design and fabricate modifications as needed
