Summary:

Responsible for employee relations, investigations, disciplinary actions and other related Human Resources functions.

Experience working with California labor and employment laws is essential to this role.

This position may be eligible for remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct prompt and thorough investigations into sensitive employee relations issues, and make objective recommendations based on findings. This includes: conducting investigatory interviews, collecting/reviewing relevant evidence, writing investigation reports, and delivering debriefs with relevant stakeholders
  • Develops, interprets and educates management and staff on personnel policies and procedures, employee handbook, legal and employment compliance and recommends changes as needed.
  • Formally respond to sensitive concerns and allegations as required by internal processes and/or external agencies
  • Stays current on legal compliance policies, best practices, and other Human Resources related matters.
  • Foster effective relationships with Team Leaders, Legal, Human Resources and other appropriate Departments
  • Coach leadership on how to appropriately manage and resolve moderately complex ER issues
  • Partner with team members throughout to communicate and educate on policies, procedures, and compliance
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to refine investigation model, from reporting to post-action, ensuring an equitable and transparent employee experience
  • Participate in team projects as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Develop trust and rapport and influence cross-functional partners and business leaders
  • Remain respectful and empathetic when confronted with difficult and uncomfortable situations surrounding an investigation
  • Able to handle confidential information in a mature and professional manner
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity within a fast moving and changing environment
  • Effective at managing time and resources while prioritizing and balancing multiple commitments with some input from manager
  • Ensures full compliance with UNIFY Financial Credit Union service standards, policies, and procedures; and with the Bank Secrecy Act and other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant employee relations experience, focused on ER investigations, employment law, and/or HRBP experience
  • HR designation highly preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local labor and employment laws.
  • Solid understanding of California labor and employment laws
  • Comfortable working with any level of employee or manager; able to read a situation and navigate
  • Demonstrated solid judgment and experience assessing risk
  • Ability to travel for site visits as needed. (approximately once a month)
