Purpose and Functions:
Employment and Education Specialist, Tennessee Alliance for Economic Mobility (TAEM)
As a member of the Family Services Team for Workforce Essentials, Employment and Education Specialist will deliver services as a part of the Tennessee Alliance for Economic Mobility (TAEM). EES will work closely with families to assist with employment, education, and training needs. Serves as families’ primary contact, advocate, and informational resource for clients seeking to gain or increase employment and/or return to or attend post-secondary for the first time.
General Responsibilities:

  • Work on a one-on-one basis to 1) assess and connect caregiver’s skills, credentials, experiences, and passions to appropriate employment opportunities; and/or 2) create customized plans by assessing and connecting caregiver skills, gifts, and passions to appropriate training opportunities.
  • Create and implement Individual Employment Action Plans based on participants’ needs & wants
  • Conduct home visits as needed, and input family progress and data in TAEM’s data system.
  • Arrange regular hours on campus and accompany caregivers when seeking to return to or attend post-secondary for the first time, assist with applications, paperwork, and financial aid.
  • Provide navigation support, connection to on-site resources, and wraparound services so TAEM caregivers have the support they need to complete a degree or industry-recognized credential.
  • Create, update, and communicate a list of county-level employment opportunities and alternative training options, aligned with county-level pathways, at least once per week.
  • Prepare and facilitate sessions that integrate core educational supports and cognitive skills development, as well as critical skills in communication, resilience, and conflict management.
  • Prepare marketing materials, host job fairs, conduct presentations, and maintain meaningful relationships with known and prospective employers and education and training partners.
  • Utilize data systems and analysis to improve and adapt programming, and to make informed decisions and improve family interactions and supports.
  • Regularly participate in Care Coordination sessions, helping build a team of support that surrounds each family and guides them towards their self-identified goals.
  • Work at county-level to participate in preexisting or create new collaborative efforts to build awareness, increase funding and capacity, and leverage resources toward education and training.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human or social services, education, or related field, with at least two years of experience working with families and young children.
  • Nonprofit experience and training in trauma-informed care, family-centered coaching, conscious discipline, and ACES preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid, unrestricted driver’s license, a good driving record, and maintain vehicle insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong management/organizational skills
  • Knowledge of inner-city human services needs and methods of delivery
  • Passion for working with people and ability to maintain a high level of
  • confidentiality regarding sensitive information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft computer programs and in related software programs and systems, including online information system is required.
  • Working knowledge and experience in spreadsheet programs such as Excel preferred (to include creating and massaging data within a spreadsheet).
  • Must have good organizational and strong detail orientation skills.
  • Will require good internal and external customer service skills.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal or while traveling for extended periods of time is required
  • Must possess the ability to research, analyze and problem solve.
  • Must be able to work independently, with moderate supervision.
  • Must be performance and task driven.

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work:
This is a salary, full time position based on a 37.5 hour work week. Hours of work are 8:00am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday. This position requires the flexibility to modify work schedule if needed to meet family’s needs.
