Purpose of Creating an Employment List for Police Dispatcher
The Town of Burrillville is currently developing an employment list for the position of Police Dispatcher. This position is responsible for coordinating all emergency requests, answering calls, general office duties and manning the monitoring station.
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Qualifications: 1-3 years’ experience with operation of computers, telecommunications equipment, basic reading and comprehension skills. A written examination will be administered for this position on
January 10, 2023 at 6:00 pm at the Wallace F. Lees Public Safety Complex,
Municipal Court Room, 1477 Victory Highway, Oakland, RI.

Position Description
Title: Police Dispatcher
Supervisor: Chief of Police
Department: Police Department
Date: November 2016
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates all police, fire, ambulance/rescue and other emergency requests, relaying information and instructions to radio unit(s) concerned.
Receives calls from the public as well as other agencies, as needed, concerning crimes, emergencies and broadcasts orders to fire, ambulance and/or police patrol unit(s) in the vicinity to respond or investigate.
Assists public by answering inquires via the telephone and or visitors directly to the
Police Station.
Permanently records all radio and telephone communications using the Computer Aide
Dispatch (CAD) to insure that all departmental activities are documented.
Monitor all cameras capturing the inside and outside of the Police Station and jail cells to detect suspicious or unusual activities and illegal entry.
Perform general office duties required to maintain police documentation including typing, filing and completing various departmental and state forms.
When a person is in custody, will closely monitor the person’s actions while in the cell and document any and all activities.
Enters and retrieves data from the computer for compilation of required reports.
Maintain files for warrants and court orders.
Monitors all department keys.
Handles all records checks.
Monitors and relays Animal Control messaging.
Monitors all burning permits issued by the Fire Department.
Monitors Hospital’s status.
Fulfills requests for Police Reports as per The State of Rhode Island Open Records Act and forwards said requests to the Administrative Lieutenant.
Update appropriate administrative duties.
Enter data through the NCIC and RILETS systems as needed.
Monitor the TGY line for the deaf.
At end of shift, print roll call log and present to next shift.
