Engineering Team Leader
Intertek is searching for an Engineering Team Leader to join our Electrical team in our Cortland, NY office. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) industry !
The Engineering Team Leader is responsible for independently performing testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian and other International product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients. This position is also responsible for providing local expertise in one or more product categories and mentoring and training less senior technical personnel.
The Engineering Team Leader is responsible for organizing and managing engineering resources within a specific location and/or department. This includes day-to-day supervision of engineers and technicians and reports through the Department Manager.
What you’ll do:
- Perform testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients.
- Provide local expertise in one or more product categories, including mentoring and training less senior technical personnel.
- Provide day-to-day supervision of Engineers and Technicians, including assigning and overseeing work; training, coaching and mentoring staff; managing employee issues; interviewing; hiring and firing recommendations; approving time and expense; conducting performance reviews; employee development and performance management; ensuring the customers’ needs are fulfilled; ensuring compliance with Intertek’s Quality Management System and all other policies and procedures.
- Provide support to sales with quoting, client meetings, etc.
- Responsible for manpower requirements, projections, and utilization within assigned area.
- Responsible for all housekeeping, equipment calibration, and supplies within assigned area.
- Responsible for efficiency and productivity within assigned area.
- Responsible for ensuring invoicing is submitted timely within assigned area; may assist with P&L for assigned area, including forecasting, managing costs, etc.
- Perform other work as required.
What it takes to be successful in this role:
- A Bachelor's Degree in a directly related engineering field.
- 4+ years directly related experience, including testing and project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC is preferred.
- Textile background a plus.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Must be client focused and quality driven.
- Must be able to confront and resolve conflict in an effective manner.
- Ability to influence others and bring teams together to achieve a common goal.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to travel as business needs dictate up to 15%.
- A valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required.
