Equine Maintenance Technician

The Charlton School is a small, clinically focused, therapeutic residential and day NYS approved 853 school for students in grades 8-12. The Charlton School mission centers around helping students become emotionally healthy, socially well-adjusted individuals who are able to achieve their highest level of individual independence. Our educational and treatment interventions focus on helping our students develop skills to improve competency with executive functioning and self-advocacy.

Major Duties:

• Provide individualized care of horses in program: feeding/turnout, mucking of stalls/paddocks, distributing medication as needed, exercising horses through lunging, cleaning of all equine related accessories (buckets, tack, etc.), picking up of feed/supplies as needed

• Cover shifts for other equine program staff related to feeding and equine care
• Maintain equine paddocks through grooming with tractor to ensure safe footing for horses and removing all manure from paddocks
• Perform upkeep of indoor riding ring through dragging with tractor to ensure safe footing for horses and students
• Conduct physical plant repair relating to all equine areas as needed including but not limited to fencing, stalls and run-in sheds

Work Schedule:

• 20hrs/week minimum with relief coverage adding hours as needed

• Majority evening/weekend shifts

Salary/Benefits:

• $15.27/hr

Criteria:

• Intensive equine related training in a working student type role (duration depends on placement) and/or a minimum of 3 years in a full-time equine care/maintenance position

• High school diploma/ preferred
• Valid NYS Drivers License required

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.21 - $20.00 per hour
