ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) Instructor

Position Summary

Salary: This is a part-time only position. Pay for this part-time position will be from $21.41per hour, with no benefits available. Time worked per week will not exceed nineteen (19) hours.

Morning and Evening Positions Available (Maximum 19 hours per week)

The primary task of an Adult Education Instructor at Chattahoochee Valley Community College is to instruct students in activities designed to promote the development of basic academic and employability skills. Instruction will be required in the areas of language, writing, science, social studies, and mathematics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Interviews will only be extended to applicants who meet the following minimum required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Directly related experience in teaching, tutoring or individualized, self-paced instruction, including experience teaching English, science, social studies, math, or business
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; proficiency in the English language
  • Competent use of the Microsoft Office suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • TESOL or ESL certification strongly preferred
  • Foreign language fluency

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach classes as assigned.
  • Organize, instruct, and supervise students in classroom settings as assigned.
  • Participate in selection of texts and teaching materials for Adult Education courses.
  • Develop individualized plans of instruction.
  • Remain current in professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.
  • Master software as needed in order to enhance instruction.
  • Recruit students for program and college at large.
  • Participate in the College’s planning process.
  • Utilize instructional technology in the instructional process.
  • Maintain appropriate work hours as outlined in State and College policies.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

INTERVIEW PROCESS:
The Recruitment and Selection Committee will screen all applicants for the position and select applicants for interviews. Interviews may consist of the following activities: question/answer session and/or skills demonstration. Upon completion of the interviews, the Committee will recommend a finalist for the position to the appropriate dean and the President, after which final employment decisions will be made.

The College reserves the right to fill the position within one year of the stated anticipated starting date or not to fill the position due to budgetary or operational considerations. Further, the College reserves the right to fill more than one position in the same job classification should another vacancy occur during the search process.

In accordance with Alabama Community College System policy and guidelines, the applicant selected for employment will be required to sign a consent form and to submit payment for a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon receipt of a clearance notification from the criminal background check. In the event a conviction for a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude is found, the procedures established for the Board of Trustees policy concerning criminal background checks will be followed.
